Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

You are in harms way whenever you take the ice. Blogs exist, like it or not. I doubt the Harvard coach or team is concentrating on anything posted on a website about an injury. Do you call the Gazette or Troy Record when they write injury info? RVD and others, post away and don't listen to others that try to restrict you. If the injury is severe or noteworthy, the coaching and training staff will decide whether the players is in any extra danger by playing in a game. As far as this past weekend, Union is the better team right now, like it or not. Union is a national contender and has earned it through hard work and great coaching. RPI has 10 other teams to be worried about in the ECAC. Championships are won after Jan 1st so lets move on and see if a little touch around the net, some better goaltending and a little discipline can move this team to where they should be.
Ding Ding Ding....Right on johnk this is a marathon not a sprint. Like I said to begin the year three are going to be some good nights and some bad nights we need to be focused on getting better every week and finishing strong there are still some bad nights to come lets keep our focus. Great to hear from johnk my favorite publican hope all is well.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

Maybe Weaver was counting on the likelihood that Ivy Leaguers would never read a rag like the Troy Record. ;)

My father worked for the Troy Record for 37 years before retiring. Even he thought it was a rag...and that was almost 20 years ago !!

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

It was funny people from union were sending hate tweets to curardi sat and sun. Saying he was a bum and should never be allowed to play college hockey again. He just retweeted them.

Also Jason klump wants to know why no one asked appert why he let Merriam say in for 7 goals against.

Kasdorf Friday or sat night gets a start I hope

Why did Mario Tremblay let Patrick Roy stay in for 9 goals against?

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

But that was due to his recruiting, wasn't it?

Not necessarily Ralph. The lack of an admissions director had something to do with it and the academic restrictions slowly choking the pool of skilled athletes. Croxton was no talent...Farynuk...Broad....Lange....?????

Kirk MacDonald wasn't that good either... nah, you easily make the pro leagues these days...

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

His suit on Saturday was gray. Don't go filling their heads with lies, RED.

My bad. I only saw it from way up high across the ice, saw it was light and assumed. You know what happens when one does that.

Yes he had indeed some talented players, but he also lost many players he had targeted in his final years. One year (2006), he supposedly lost his first five targets (Greening, Purcell, ...). I don't think that this was due to admissions which indeed has been more favorable recently from what I have heard. RPI's profile (choice of majors, male-female ratio, etc.) has always been a problem.

COuld you explain why a lack fo an admissions director is a problem? (Or what is an admissisons director?)

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

Well it is official, just ordered tickets for this weekends games. Hope they do not decide to send them by mail since I clicked the will call option. Really do not need the problems some of you have had on here when ordering tickets to other games. ;) Hope we get to see Kasdorf at least one of the nights in net for the whole game. I also would like to see the team who played FS on 10/12-10/13 to come back! :D Anyone know of good places to eat around Harvard's barn?

Your first statement which includes the word "supposedly" verifies it's inaccuracy. Your latter question is not something for a public forum! So.......happy election day everyone!!

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

Great now this information is all over the dartmouth locker room. Can Dr D post - will he be able to post with the same effectiveness wit and sarcasm. How does this affect the lovely and talented Jenny. Should I buy stock in the Van Gogh vodka company. Just kidding. Back to hockey. When Merriam played i heard 'soft goal' a couple of times and 'he wishes he had that one back' neither of which sounds good. Let Kasdorf play. I would give Lee a rest also to send a message. Six games no points many penalty minutes.

Update-the knee is fine. My internet connection back. The sarcasm will always be there but slowing losing some beta cells all the time. You have not lived until you try Van Gogh Dutch Caramel (add a splash of ginger ale and you have cream soda with a kick). And Jenny is as unique as ever.
Back to hockey-I have seen Merriam play some superb periods of hockey but from what i read, this Union game allowed some soft ones. Kasdorf needs to get some ice time-let's find out this year if the pros knew what they were seeing when they drafted him. He may be a freshman but he could just be the spark this team needs to snap out of it. The defense is just too talented to allow the number of opportunities oother teams are getting in close. Find which are the most effective and cohesive defensive pairings that can communicate with the goaltender and keep them out there together for the most ice time. Hit hard-we have the defensive size to bang with anyone. But no matter what-do not retaliate and stop the stupid major penalties and misconducts. We are showing so much more offense this year than last. We have a couple of pretty dangerous lines. Keep these games in the 3 goals against range and we will do just fine. And as I have maintained forever-the key in college hockey is mostly 3 things. 1)Special teams 2)Special teams and 3) Special teams. The successful teams win with them. The unsuccessful teams lose with them. Just my 2¢

"Supposedly" was only used because I could not recall the number. It doesn't verify its inaccuracy, but just the passage of time. There were definitely more than just the two whom I remember. We discussed it here at the time. I think that a third was Barry Goers.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

Was just thinking, based on some past posts some feel there is only a certain number of players who can travel with the team. If this is true and we hope to see Kasdorf play which of the other two goalies stays back home? Assuming we would only dress two goalies as we have in the past when traveling.

He can bring and dress an extra goaltender, he would just have to leave a forward or dman at home! It is the number of players in the travel party, whether they are d, fwds, or goalies is the coaches decision.

Was this rule in effect on Saturday? Or is there a short-trip exception? Both Kasdorf and Diebold were on the bench.

I have know idea if it is even a rule that only so many players can travel with the team. I do know they can only dress a certain number of players. Some others on here have stated they can only travel with a certain number. However, when I questioned why Coupal was at every away conference game last year, and I believe he traveled with the team not independently, I did not see where anyone answered. I am not on here everyday so I may have missed it.

I don't know if it was in effect, but my guess is it was. Since it was a one game trip, there is little reason for bringing extra players anyway. When we play two games on a weekend we may want to switch some players from one game to the next. Also this is an ECAC, not an NCAA rule.

My interpretation was that he didn't go as a player, and thus he didn't count to the quota.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

Seems to me that it would be difficult to enforce a rule forbidding more than a certain number of players to travel with the team.

Would that require the referees to stop at the visiting team's hotel before the game and ask to see the registration book?

And if it would, couldn't a team easily circumvent it by asking any extra players to register as John Smith and Joe Jones?

Glad to see you back, Dr.; hope all is well for both of you (and the cats, too!)
