RPI Engineers '15-'16

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

So the mystery continues re: (Huhtamaki) Niskanen. Is she or is she not sufficiently recovered from her injuries to be in the lineup this year...anyone have any info?

I had that thought too, but I would think that she would have had her picture taken anyway if she were on the roster. If she and Banks are both out, we are down to five defensemen.

I can't imagine why they would still be listed on the roster if they were both out. Of the 2 new D one is from a great program in SSM but the other is from a much weaker program in Pittsburgh Elite so I would certainly have concerns there if the 2 veterans are actually out.

To keep their scholarships? I suspect that they are playing, but we will see.

Ana Orzechowski was a teammate of Whitney Renn two years ago with Little Caesars. When I saw that team in a tourney that season at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex (The Washington Capitals' practice rink) the team was quite good. IIRC they lost in the finals to NAHA. I don't know why she changed teams.

You don't have to be listed on the roster to keep your scholarship especially you are going to be out for a season due to injuries or extended illness for example. It is peculiar that only those 2 don't have a photo since they are both veterans. You could easily use an old photo. Doesn't make sense.

8 girls from that pitt elite team went d1, so i wouldn't say they were a weak team by any stretch. i would say the pitt elite team was a lot stronger than the lc team she played on the year prior.

Fine, middle of the road then. Is that better? I saw them play plenty and was never overly impressed compared to a lot of other teams.

Whatever, they are only allowed 4 out of district players, so they do pretty well with what they have to work with. Mission, shattuck, NAHA etc. can stack their teams without any restrictions.

Which is why those teams always attract better talent overall, proving my point even more, thank you.

I guess you told me lol I watched a lot of your powerhouse programs play and the biggest difference is depth. I seen a lot very good players come out of average to below average programs and have successful D1 careers. You don't need to come from a top program to play D1 and be productive is the point I am making.

Your last sentence is right on...especially if you go to a very low end team like we have here. (You seen a lot very? Or you've seen a lot of very?!) ;)

That looks like Brandi Banks, so perhaps she and Heidi Niskanen just didn't have their pictures taken..

Or maybe not ? :(. Anyone out there getting the video feed?

The video worked perfectly on my computer. It was nice being able to rewind to watch certain plays over again especially the scoring plays. The game was pretty boring until Montreal went on a scoring spree. It was like they finally woke up. I think we know who the 3rd goalie is going to be. In my argument of the two new D, let's just say 9 looked very comfortable and she kept the puck in the offensive zone which resulted in RPI's goal whereas 13 looked slow and out of shape and was caught out of position quite often. One of those times she ended up way up ice and left her D partner by herself which resulted in the 2 vs 1 game winning goal for Montreal. I think the speed of the real games ahead is going to be a big issue for her until she gets into much better condition.

I completely agree with your assessment of the freshman D's, for this game at least. Not sure that I would agree on the basis of just one game that Bombay will be the #3 goalie...need to see more of all three of them. One of the three goals was a rocket to the top corner. I didn't see most of the first period (may watch it on youtube if I get time) but I thought Selander looked good in the second, but as you say Montreal really didn't put a lot of pressure on until the third.
