RPI Engineers '15-'16

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Looks like the same lineup today for the Engineers. Anyone with injury or illness news on Wash, Schwalbe and Raspa? BTW, RPI off to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Rooney from Tomlinson and Mankey from Rooney. Mercyhurst changes goalies 4:38 into the game.

Having Wash back will be a boost for this weekend.

The battle for the final 3 or 4 playoff spots will be fierce again this year, in a very tough ECAC. The contenders will beat up on each other, so I'm prepared to predict that the winner(s) will be those that are able to pull off one or two upsets over the top 4 teams. So...this weekend presents us with a tremendous opportunity on home ice...:D:D

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

What a great, GREAT game by the Engineers tonight! Shots on goal were not indicative of the play, RPI looked very competitive against #4 QU Bobcats...an almost flawless game.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Very impressed with the play of RPI, especially Wash.

And of course, Selander. It is getting to the point where I almost take for granted that she will keep us in every game. Also great to see Horwood back, but if I start naming individuals here this could be a long post because there was not a weak player on the ice all night for RPI...great team effort!

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

For those watching today, turn that volume up! I'll have the call for you on RPITV. There is no radio, so you are stuck with the video.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

I have followed the Engineers for about 14 years now, and this weekend is a good demonstration of why this year's version of the team might be my favourite of all time. Great defensive effort to tie QU 0-0 on Friday night. And then today, I watched them on RPITV until about the 5 minute mark of the third period when RPITV froze on me. At that point my summary of the game would have been along these lines: "Selander amazing (again) but the rest of the team looks tired and totally outclassed by a very impressive Princeton team, score 3 to zip for the Tigers". Then I see that the final score is 3-2 so I watch the replay on YouTube. Somehow, the Engineers dug deep and found a way to outplay Princeton in the third and make things very close. Effort is what this year's team is all about, and I love that. The ECAC will be quite the battle over the next few weeks, but if the Engineers fall short it will not be for lack of effort.

I think that Selander is giving the team confidence which has been lacking the last few years.

I think that is a big part of it Ralph. When a team is working hard (as RPI teams usually do) there is nothing more dispiriting than giving up a soft goal, and that just isn't happening this year, so the team just keeps digging deep.

There were times during the first two periods today when Selander must have felt like she was back with her team in Sweden which typically forced her to face 60 or so shots per game .

Speaking of goalies and confidence, am I late to the party in realizing that Sonja van der Bliek is a backup for the Toronto Furies in the CWHL?

First I had heard of it. Looks like she has done well in the games she has played.

I had thought that it was old news, or I would have posted this tweet which I saw a week ago.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

A one-point weekend obviously isn't the best in the world, but it's hard to be upset about tying Quinnipiac. Maybe don't go down 3-0 against Princeton and we could be talking about a huge weekend and jump in the standings for our Engineers. As it happened, we did jump from 10th to 9th in the projections, but we remain about three points behind Yale. If we want to make up ground, we MUST win both games against Union this weekend. Losing even a point here would be a huge blow.

RPI KRACH (RRWP): 49.48 (.3764)

MCTs (Mean/Median/Mode/Range):
Points - 17.83 / 18 / 18 / 8 - 30
Rank - 9.03 / 9 / 10 / 2 - 12
Playoffs - 26.2%
Most likely opponent - at Quinnipiac (15.5%)

Conference rankings:
  1. Quinnipiac
  2. Princeton
  3. Harvard
  4. Clarkson
    —————
  5. Colgate
  6. Cornell
  7. SLU
  8. Yale

  9. RPI
  10. Dartmouth
  11. Brown
  12. Union

Lose to Union and you don't deserve to be in the top 8.

Nobody's going to lose to Union the rest of the way this year. I don't see any more tie games for Union either. This could be a winless season we're seeing unfortunately for the Union players. RPI and Union are playing at two separate levels of competitiveness. Union also has to play Syracuse on Tuesday and I don't think that will help them at all and might even hurt them going into the weekend. Get out your brooms RPI fans.
