RPI 2026-27: Houston Field House, We Have Lift-off!

I'm thinking the league needs a mercy rule.....lol
Final 83-0 and the score was actually far closer than the game could have been. RPI pretty much just tried to run out the clock starting in the third period but it is hard to do when every running play breaks through the line and goes for 20-50 yards and a TD. Looking ahead there is of course the chance of some sort of unexpected trouble from Rochester but the two games at the end of the season are as usual, the deciders for the Liberty League championship. Ithaca and Union are most definitely the honest and real competition and we could win both or lose both

These things can change rather quickly. there was a time when we would start our season with a couple of soft games including Endicott. Now, fast forward a few years, and I would not rush into putting them on our schedule at any time! if you follow NCAA football, in all divisions, there are some very one sided games especially early in the season. Teams that play Ohio State, Notre Dame and Miami get pounded by scores rivaling our 83-0 of this past weekend. But there are just so many top tier teams you can put on your schedule and these blowouts will continue to occur. I do not have any insight as to what will happen with the Liberty League, but for now the only truly competitive teams almost every year are Union, Ithaca, Hobart and RPI. Could that change to include other teams/ Surely, but I just have not seen much change from year to year.

Note the new Zamboni door location directly behind the East goal. Does that match up with all those nice drawings we saw of renovations that will probably never happen?

Side note: As expected Shane Smith was sent down to Tahoe in the ECHL.
The road to success in hockey is often filled with some speed bumps. This was probably expected.

On the football note, I just saw this on Twitter and thought it was amusing. The worst in the country out of all 772 teams! https://x.com/espn_billc/status/2107096844853707016?s=46

I wonder if this change will allow the visiting team access to ice without walking with the public and stepping over the bench to get on ice?

I would assume so. The walk of shame that opposing teams were forced to make was at least in part due to the installation of the semi-permanent "temporary" ice system equipment and plumbing in that area.

Is there anyone who has been in the area very recently and knows if all the contractor's du du has been cleared out of the B parking lot or are we going to have another edition of a parking nightmare like those of last year.

However, should your paid for B lot parking pass again be utterly worthless and you just don't say the hell with it and go home, remember that Field House box office staff (and probably athletics staff too) have been put in a no win situation. Yes, while they are the ones assigned to both take your money and sell you the sometimes worthless passes, they have absolutely no jurisdiction or control over parking lots. That responsibility lies with a unit under Public Safety/Security. So, giving box office staff an earful or a piece of your mind is basically an exercise in futility. There is not a damned thing they can do to get stuff, cars without passes or anything else that don't belong in a parking lot on game nights the hell out of the lot.

So, however justifiably mad you may be should last years' problems persist, ease off on them. If box office sells X number of parking passes, it is the responsibility of that unit of Public Safety/Security who are responsible for seeing to it that X number of spots are available in a particular lot. That unit failed multiple times last year. They are very likely to do so again now should contractor's du du still be laying around the lot.

RPI teaser video on FB shows players heading out the tunnel to the ice for practice. So it would appear that we are at last operational .
This is good to hear.

I was having visions of a scenario such as faced the WHA's Philadelphia Blazers, who came to their home arena on what was supposed to be opening night, only to have the ice declared unplayable after it cracked the first time somebody drove the Zamboni on it.
