RPI 2026-27: Houston Field House, We Have Lift-off!

I asked for physical tickets when I ordered my season tickets, but no tickets yet, as of today. It was mentioned they will send them out the day after “meet the players night.” Unfortunately it did not happen, or I would have them by now.

Same here. I paid for physical tickets and have not received them.

If you want physical tickets, the box office will print them for a charge. But you have to ask them to do so. Otherwise they emailed mobile tickets. Mobile tickets cannot be printed. Nor can they be put into your Apple Wallet. You have to pull up the email for each game. This coming from an engineering school. We got our hanging tag for parking in the mail today.

Yeah I paid for the physical tickets.

In honor of Logan Heroux, today is 29 September 2026. There are 3 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 2 October 2026 for the start of next season.

That’s a Good question? Maybe the field house will be ready? On a separate note the box office really likes to wait to the last minute to get the season tickets out? Days away and I still have no tickets.
The A.D. said publicly at the hype event that the WIH hockey game on 10/2 would be played at the Casino. So, if there was a course correction back to HFH, I would hope someone would have the good sense to speak up... BTW, the Union men's team hosts Colgate Friday night, so if the WIH game is in Schenectady, it will have to be an afternoon affair.

Mine were retrieved at the hype event. Given the current state of delivery affairs at the USPS, I would not hold my breathe on when they might arrive....LOL

Who would have thought they'd have to reschedule an ice hockey game to a neutral site because neither team has a rink with ice (particularly a couple of weeks into their season)? If the figures from last week were correct they should be making ice at the FH in the next day or two so the men's and women's teams should be practicing on home ice for next week's games.

Spoke with HFH box office. The person said “I have not heard anything to the contrary that the women’s game this Friday will be played at the HFH”. They said the ice should be ready in the next day or so.

I hope this is true. I have zero confidence in the right hand communicating with the left in regards to RPI athletics. LOL

This kind of answer sounds awfully close to "As far as I know...." when the answer should be - "I simply do not know and cannot comment". I fully believe the entire institution is on the rebound, but things like this just reinforced in my mind how far things had fallen. Amazing how a reputation build over 200+ years had been destroyed in just over 20 years.

Very true!

With all the posts about the state of the current renovations, perhaps a little historical comparison between the current renovations and the one done between the 1982-1983 seasons and the 1983-1984 seasons is in order. There are major differences between the two, some from memory (not always 100% reliable, but, in this case are close enough) and some documented and totally reliable. Some good for the current leaders, some not so good.

They are:

1) At least for hockey, the Fieldhouse was never needed again after RPI's last home game of the 1982-1983 season on February 19, 1983 (a 6-3 win against Boston College) and would not be needed again for a home game until November 4, 1983 (a 2-1 win against Mount Allison). Yes, they had way more swing time the first time around.

2) However, the 1980's renovations were far more extensive involving far more than just the rink, boards, glass and refrigeration system. Also included were renovations changes to the floor which involved lowering it and making the rink 15 feet longer, extending the grandstand on both sides, removing view obstructing poles, modernizing everything out of sight under the grandstand (locker rooms, offices, etc.) and all the way up to a new roof (which has probably already been replaced somewhere along the line).

3) The key institutional leaders in place at the time of the first renovation were the GOAT of ALL RPI Athletic Directors Bob Ducatte (dispute that in my presence and I will probably just laugh in your face and tell you that you need to sleep with somebody else every now and then) and the great Dr. George Low who also had to rescue the place from the reign of a pathetic stiff much like the present guy is apparently doing now. Don't know a thing about who would be the GOAT at the presidential level but I do know that the only guy who could have possibly given Ducatte a run for his money would have been in charge now but, incredibly, was never given the opportunity and eventually went to work somewhere else. Can't possibly say for sure if that would have accelerated the pace of the current renovation, but, I do wonder.

4) Finally, they did not need the swing time mentioned in #1 above. Not even close. The first renovation was pretty much completed at or about the beginning of the academic year as best as I can recall. In plenty of time to schedule a well publicised (both in local newspapers and by regular mail to season ticket holders) open to the public tour of the entire virtually completely renovated facility. All that was still laying around circa Labor Day 1983 were a wooden horse or two, some wall panelling here and there, a few walls that still needed painting to be completed and some tools wherever touch up work still had to be done. None of these cosmetics would have had much effect on the arena area itself. They could have hosted an event of any kind that very day as soon as the sizable tour group which included me left!!!

Should anyone who lives in the area (or lived in the area at that time) AND took the long ago tour recall anything above differently about the state of the renovation, the floor is yours.

I don't remember details from that era as well as I used to, but that seems fundamentally correct. For fans by far the biggest impact was removing most of the poles (all but the corners). Before that every fraternity/sorority and any experienced group of non-affiliated hockey fans had seating maps that showed which seats had obstructed views of the goals. They were invaluable when your hockey line group reached the table to pick season tickets. Our teams were so good in the mid-to-late 80s that it took more than a decade to become apparent, but the die for the decline of the hockey line was cast when those poles disappeared. The number of seats that offered a good view increased dramatically, making it possible to get pretty good ones without camping on the student union patio.

I did not include the women' players this year because I had even less knowledge of the team s players and their uniform numbers than I had for the men.

In honor of the women's team and their coaches, today is 30 September 2026. There are 2 days until RPI's next game.
