RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Not that I need to see this to feel my age, but now I really feel it!! Could only be worse when I start to see legacy grand children as recruits!!

I assume that you mean, legacy grandchildren of players who were at RPI when you were or later.

Come to think of it, it has been quite a while since two of Rich Scammell's daughters were at RPI, so if they have children, they could be coming soon.

Exactly - and since I was there going back 62 years, I suspect there are lots of grandchildren who could qualify. but of course, they have to want to play hockey.

IIRC, JF was responsible for having us play UVM in Quebec in 2008 when he was a member of the Quebec legislature.

Two things: in that link on JF Gosselin, is he wearing his RPI road jersey in the picture?

And two: Keith Allain retiring? I think he's 67-68. That might be a driver second only to the transfer portal rules now in effect.

He sure is wearing it and it’s awesome!

Yale for whatever reason never was able to recover from the covid shutdown. Idk why they had less shit going on than rpi did? Allain never was able to get them back on track. Similar to rpi the recruiting has been abysmal past 3-4 years. I wondered how much longer he would be coaching. Heck of a coach! Lots of work with team USA. Prediction for
Next coach to go is brekke up in st Lawrence and finally whittet at brown who’s had 2 winning seasons in like 12 years. Lol

The timing of the announcement is what makes me wonder. If he'd simply had enough I would think he'd have announced in the Spring after the season. But in any event the interim gets a crack at the helm, which may have been his intent all along....time will tell

I'm surprised that Allain lasted as long as he did. While they've been terrible since the pandemic restart, the program had lost all momentum before that. The last 3 or 4 years pre-pandemic were, at best, mediocre. The atmosphere in the Whale during my occasional visits in that period - I go to the RPI game every year and the Cornell game every couple of years or so - was devoid of excitement and attendance was down. It makes one wonder how much Allain depended on Muse, who was promoted to associate HC after they won the championship but left the program a year or so later. Not long after that the program began its decline.

When you win a national championship with a non-blue blood program, that basically gives you a job for life

Perhaps, but it didn't work for Mike Addesa (note: I'm well aware of the scandal, but there were people high up in the administration that were gunning for him before that). Yale has tended to keep coaches well beyond their sell by date. Tim Taylor was treated as a god there for decades even though he was a mediocre coach.
