RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

What a weird recruiting year. CHL eligibility and the House NIL/roster rules changes have created more spring/summer recruiting for the upcoming season than we would ordinarily see in five or more years combined.
I wonder if this will be the new norm, or it was primarily due to the change in coaches.

I was referring to recruiting throughout college hockey, but ours was made even more extreme by the change in coaches. July/August roster changes used to be rare, but this season they are common. I think college hockey will reach a new steady state once the impact of the new CHL and roster rules transients work their way through the system. They are driving a lot of these really late summer changes this year.

However, the portal churn means that steady state will be at a much higher level of turnover for most teams and far greater for programs undergoing major changes. If we went back and looked at old Heisenberg pages we’d probably see the sweet spot for recruiting additions across D1 was 6-8 per year with relatively small tails on the distribution and infrequent transfers so most rosters were pretty much locked down by May. Coaches could actually take a vacation. I’ll bet ithe new normal will be 8-12 (with a few even larger after coaching changes) and we’ll see rosters changing for at least 30-60 days after the portal closes as teams adjust to transfer wins and losses. I would hope rosters will be settled by end of June-ish or coaches are going to burn out.

I agree that a lot of the turnover is due to the change in rules. In the future, CHL players will not just suddenly have the opportunity to go to the NCAA, but will have this opportunity each year like the US and lower-tier Canadian league players. Our new coach is trying to upgrade our team and is having some success. However some of the players he is getting appear only to commit to RPI when the don't have an opportunity to play for a team in a better college league and will change their commitment when a perceived better opportunity shows up (including monetary payment).

IIRC, classes didn't start until the week after Labor Day when I was at RPI. so this did not happen.
My recollection is that they definitely started after Labor Day, and perhaps as much as two or three weeks later.

With classes starting as late as they did, the first semester used to stretch well into January,

Similar memory here. i also recall picking up my books at the bookstore for the first semester and finding out that there was already assigned reading from two of my classes!

It’s 86 degrees and becoming more humid and smoke is in the air. The rising sun was absolutely stunning this morning.

All that being said. I don’t care who is in the uniform or how they got here. I am ready for some hockey.

In honor of Lucas Matta, today is 5 August 2025. There are 61 days (2 months) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2025 for the start of next season.

Just watched that commercial for American Eagle jeans and saw Ms. Sweeney in denim and I am ready too. Just not sure it is for hockey though!;)

Can't disagree Doc....if you haven't seen it, you should google the video of her at the shooting range...oof....my heart be still! Let's just say she hits what she aims at !! LOL

Wicked - have seen that video also and agree with you totally. There are some who have a problem with defining what a woman is. After seeing these videos I would think that question has been answered (and I am not a biologist!)
