There was an AP article in my local newspaper yesterday titled "Some colleges opt out of revenue sharing." The article was focused primarily on schools with Division I basketball and/or football programs. It said that while all members of the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12 (there's still a PAC-12?), and SEC are participating in revenue sharing, some schools in other conferences are not. It said that the newly formed College Sports Commission, which oversees revenue sharing, posted a list of schools that opted in to revenue sharing before the deadline of June 30. The Ivy League schools did not opt in, nor did full members of the Patriot League.
I suppose "revenue sharing" refers to some sort of arrangement to pay players out of the proceeds of ticket sales or other revenue sources for the athletic program. The article isn't specific about exactly what it is, nor does it say where the casual fan might be able to find the list of schools that have opted in,
But in the very last paragraph, the article mentioned that some schools that don't play Division I football or basketball have opted in. Specifically mentioned were Johns Hopkins, with its lacrosse program, and Augusta (GA) University, which has a Division I golf program, perhaps not surprising in view of its location.
Does anyone know if RPI and/or any of Clarkson, SLU, and Union, all of which are Division I only in hockey, have opted into revenue sharing?
