RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

I'm actually more optimistic regarding the two players. McMahon is a reliable source so I do believe they committed. It would also make no sense at this late time for them to decommit without another option. When a player decommits in favor of another program or a professional contract word of their new deal usually comes immediately. Since we've heard nothing (and they haven't put out the new recruit press release) I suspect they are getting all of the paperwork in place. When done they will be added to the roster and we'll get the release. Of course, this is also the time of year when I get overly optimistic about the coming season..........
I agree I think both are going through the admission process. Soon enough we will have the new recruit release. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season.

Anyone else notice uscho put out a article about chuck Weber taking a head coaching job in the ECHL but never did one for Dave smith lol

Today is 11 July 2025. There are 86 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2025 for the start of next season.

I also believe that they are going through the admission process, I am just concerned. It could even be complete, but no one has bothered to update the list yet.

Wyland will have Matt Murley on his radio show today sometime between 10am - 1PM 104.5 the Team. If it hasn't been discussed here, Matty is being inducted into the NYS Hockey Hall of Fame.
Murley's interview was a good retrospective on his career -- he is being inducted later this month. Event is sold out according to Murls. He had a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm when discussing the future of RPI hockey and raved about the energy Schmidt has brought, as well as the hiring of Lang which he described as a home run.

In unrelated news, as has been whispered for some time now, Mongo Bennett has departed Q'Pac and has joined Benny's staff in Orono. The USCHO write up somehow fails to mention his unceremonious departure from Union.

They were late adds. Let's hope they are still formalizing their admission. It seems pretty clear that the staff thought they were committed since someone on the inside told McMahon we have 20 newcomers and there are only 18 on the released roster.

Edit: It could be worse. Clarkson has their very highly regarded goalie recruit from the OHL, Parsons, on its announced 2025-2026 roster. He signed with the Ottawa Senators today.
I don't suspect this was a complete surprise in Potsdam. They also signed keeper Shane Soderwall out of Curry College who was the best player in DIII last year. I saw him play in the FF in Utica and the guys we were with all said: "someone's gonna grab this kid" .......and sure enough CCT did !

knowing how they handle getting information out for athletics it’s probably complete like you said.

Probably true, but they now only have 2 goalies on their pre-camp roster. They had no returning guys in net so it looks like Soderwall (who was great for 2 years in DIII) or a guy that had a few mediocre years as a #2 in the WHL before spending his overage year Ryan Sanborn style - bouncing around several teams before settling in to have a strong 2nd half in the NAHL. It may or may not have been completely unexpected, but Clarkson has to be at least as concerned about goaltending as we are. That wasn't the case for Clarkson fans a few weeks ago.

love to hear it. I believe we are in the beginning stages of a complete turnaround for hockey.

According to T/U article, Juneau and Townsend will join Murley with the group of notables in this year's induction. Can't help but think that if they'd have advertised this thing to the RPI faithful, they could have sold a whole lot more tickets in a bigger room..

Just looked at the website for any roster updates and they have last year’s roster listed. When you try to click on this year’s roster, nothing happens.
Perhaps they’re doing the updates and including the two players who weren’t listed before and maybe they’re doing the numbers as well…

And season ticket applications are going out today.

You have to enter the years. https://rpiathletics.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/roster/2025-26. It is still missing two players (and numbers).

At the risk of getting yelled at by RB, I'll close by saying they have the Ukrainian keeper Levshyn lined up for 2026 -- he recently attended VAN development camp. Depending on how their early season breaks, they could always bring him in over winter break.
