RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Do we know UML in Troy 11/15 already?

I see they are playing Union on Friday night. I wonder if they are doing a travel pair thing where we have Merrimack on Friday. Then the Capital District teams can return the weekend set in Lowell/ North Andover next season.

That would be logical.

I saw them a couple of times last season and most of their high draft picks weren't that impressive. The two best players were a couple of Bruins prospects, Walsh (a late draft pick) and Bancroft (signed as a FA after the season with Boston). Walsh will be back and I understand they have a defenseman coming in from the USHL that is more like free safety sized but is skilled enough to have been drafted by one of the NY teams and is a top college prospect.
The biggest kid listed on the roster is Soph. forward Murray at 6'5 229 ...even with the usual height and weight exaggeration, that is a big boy. They have a few that are close seconds at 6'4 220ish.

Not a terribly detailed article, but it chronicles the lament of QMJHL GM from Baie Comeau regarding losing prospect Poirier to U. Maine. The very end of the article mentions the NIL money factor as tilting the ice.

The most interesting thing wasn't that Maine outbid his major junior team, it's not hard for a school with deep pocketed backers to do so I'd already guessed that, but that Carolina was behind it. They signed Bradly Nadeau from Maine after his freshman year and they obviously thought Ben Barr did an excellent job with him. Having NHL teams direct players his way is probably worth as much as the Alfond family's checkbook. We don't have all the advantages of a flagship state U in HE, but hopefully our new staff will gain a reputation for developing talent that helps bring in players and keep the ones we have.

While I'm on the NIL topic, the UMass paper did a well-detailed article on the school's plans for spending across their many programs, with football and basketball getting the bulk of the planned spending and men's hockey getting about 5% or $400,000-600,000 this year to spend on players.

Don't get fixated on just the Alfond family (Dexter Shoe Empire) checkbook. There is also one more chap in the equation that has some "realm of the coin" to spare along with a willingness to part with some of it. That chap is one Stephen King.

UMass has approximately $10 million in NIL walk around money??? THAT football team has been getting any substancial $???
Check their record.
