RPI 2025–26: Off the Critical List and In Recovery

Exactly - with all their draft picks, if BU plays their top dogs for 60 minutes it is almost like playing an NHL team. But it is ludicrous to look at odds for these types of exhibition games since one never knows who is going to play and for how long. I am not even sure what the rules allow for these games. I do think 3.5 goals is a massive underdog and rarely do we get to see that kind of spread. i look forward simply to see what we look like on the ice against on e of the premier teams. Could care less about the score but just trying to get an idea of what sort of talent we will be putting out there for the games that count.
I'm looking to see if we can keep up.
Dave's teams were for the most part slow not just in overall speed but acceleration.High end teams have fast feet and explosiveness when they get the puck regardless of the outcome if we are able to deal with and hopefully match their pace that would be a great sign BTW gane is on ESPN @ 5

If I am able to watch i will be hoping to see how we perform on special teams and also how well we perform the basic tasks such as face offs, clearing the defensive zone, communicating on defense and with the goal tender. All the areas that needed so much work in the past few years.

Clarkson lost to canisius Friday?Seriously? Lol
SLU lost to a Niagara team who lost 70% of their offensive from last year. Unsurprisingly SLU scored 1 goal. Brekke is as good as gone. Not a good look for ecac. Qpac beating BC helps.

Doc if we see improvements in those areas we’re on the right track. Let’s go red!!

For the football fans- RPI over Hobart on the road 36-10 and that just simply does not happen often!! played one of our best games in years and record is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty league. Color me very surprised not so much with the victory, but with the margin.
Yesterday's' win picked up one spot in the newer fangled NPI rating system they are using these days. They are now #28 nationally out of the 241 programs that play D3 football.

Unfortunately, even if they keep winning, staying there is going to be a heavy lift. The next three games are, in order, are against #210, #240 (out of 241) and #178. The effect of playing those games will be carnage on the heavily weighted strength of schedule factor.

Conversely, the last two against #41 and #121 will not exactly sink their strength of schedule but it not make up for the hit you take from playing the above three games either.

Pretty sure the only realistic path to the national tournament is winning the Liberty League auto bid. Otherwise, it's apply for one of those ECAC Bowl bids.

Can someone start a go fund me for Doc so He can get ESPN OH and throw in a bottle of Van Gogh Caramel !!!
Been a matter of principle. We had subscribed in the past but got disgusted with interruptions, late starts to broadcasts, and poor quality issues. And that was when we had a yearly subscription deal. The price has since been raised twice and is simply not worth it for the service. With several of the games now carried on FloSports (which is even worse) and the local pub walking distance, it just makes little sense. But the bottle of Van Gogh would be greatly appreciated!!

The terrible early season loss to Utica virtually assured us that we need to run the LL table to get an autobid from the league to make the tournament. Ithaca looms like the largest hurdle although they had a horrible time this past weekend with a team we walked over. And of course, Union is never a given. I wondered why we had 6 away games and only 4 home contests scheduled this year? That also adds a bit of difficulty.

Not a great game, but also not a terrible game. RPI loses 3 to nothing to an outstanding BU team. All things considered, a team made up of transfers with a new coach going up against a team made up of NHL prospects, we probably should have lost by a lot more, which makes me have some hope for the season. Sort of wish we scored though. First real game Friday against a 2-0 Miami at The Field House.

Was at the game tonight. Thought they were pretty good, played more connected defensively than I expected and it was an even game the first 30. They got outskated pretty hard late in the game but it wasn't like they were pinned in their own end like they have been the last few years. Defensive system looked solid. Wilson, Scherzer, Rullers caught my eye up front. Klassek, VanDamme on the back end. Concerned about the conditioning given 25 guys dressed but BU is just so fast. Solid starting point.

Early odds for next week- Football we are a 37.5 point favorite over Buffalo State at home Saturday. Hockey shows that surprisingly the girls are only a 1.5 goal underdog to Northeastern (A very good Northeastern team). The boys are a very slight 0.5 goal underdog to Miami at home. These could all change and are all extremely preliminary.

Looks like we just do not get any respect in D3 polling anyway. We win decidedly over Hobart a team listed as top 30 or better pre season and actually in the polls higher after the first week. Ithaca barely survives against Rochester, a team we beat fairly easily, and gets a few votes (4) in the poll. We most certainly will not gain any ground or votes in the next 3 weeks.

From the BU side I thought RPI out hustled BU for much of the first and part of the second period. They gave in to the presssure in the 3rd period but goaltending and defense were good. A very competitive game against a highly ranked team.

These are exhibitions... shaking the rust off, they are rarely pretty affairs.

Good news. I wasn't able to see the game, but am pleased that several folks have had similar thoughts about the team defense and goaltending.
