RPI 2024–25: Come for the Hockey, Stay for the Football

The team is playing better overall, and the weakness of the ECAC outside of Quinnipiac this year makes the playoffs a bit of a wildcard, but the odds for a home playoff game are low. Maybe a blessing in disguise; if the season finished today, the opponent would be Brown--probably the best matchup other than Yale. Downside is that RPI could get passed by the teams below them if they lose both games this weekend.

According to https://www.playoffstatus.com/ecachockey/rensselaerstandings.html as of right now, RPI has a 3% chance at getting home in the playoffs, and a 97% chance of being away. If RPI does not sweep the weekend, we are guaranteed a road away game. If RPI wins 1 game, we are likely to finish 9th, and if we lose both, we are likely to finish 10th. Assuming we are on the road, we have a 45% chance at playing Brown, and a 44% chance at playing Harvard, though there is a very small chance we get Dartmouth, Cornel, Union, or Colgate. In my opinion, Brown is the best option, but Harvard is not a bad option either. This season, RPI split with Brown. The scary part about Brown is that their goalie has the best save percentage in the ECAC. A win against Harvard is certainly possible with this team in a one game series. The scary thing about Harvard is RPI has not beat Harvard since spring 2022. Anything is possible in a one game series, but I tend to agree that Brown looks like the better option for RPI, but Harvard seems like the other likely option.

As a side note, RPI's club hockey team is headed to their national championship tournament. I don't know much about club hockey, but let's go red!

From a post by "Give My Regards" on eLynah which has similar info for each ECAC team.

Rensselaer:
THIS WEEK: Colgate, Cornell.
ON THEIR OWN: Can wrap up ninth with a regulation win plus one more point on the weekend.
BEST CASE: Would take eighth if they win twice in regulation and Brown gets no more than two points.
WORST CASE: Slides to twelfth with two regulation losses if Princeton gets three points and Yale and St. Lawrence each get five.
TIEBREAKERS: Beats Brown and Yale; loses to Harvard; could win or lose against Princeton and St. Lawrence.

Another year in the basement of the ECAC....
Wouldn’t expect anything less from this coaching staff. Meanwhile clarkson and union are rivals are putting together very good seasons. As they normally do….
To rub the proverbial salt in the wounds union has a beautiful new arena! Unbelievable is all I can say

Since we recently got a commitment from an Austrian player, where we already raising flags for all of our players when Mathias Lange was a player?

If so, are we likely to have kept it?
