RPI 2024–25: Come for the Hockey, Stay for the Football

I don't think I saw anyone mention the generic email from Smitty regarding the NIL with various weblinks to NCAA and related NIL information sites. The text of the enitire written message in italics below. It was then followed by various weblinks.

Subject: NCAA Rules Education

I'm writing to offer some of the NCAA rules that are relevant to college athletics and NCAA hockey. I understand that navigating NCAA regulations can be complex, and I'm happy to share this information and help try to explain these specific areas that can create some confusion. There is a lot of information out there and I attached links to each of the images below. My goal is to provide information about some of the things happening in college athletics for you.

I have also attached the link for the 2025 NCAA Guide for the College Bound Student-Athlete. This is a great resource for recruiting information.

What is missing in the email is ANYTHING specific to RPI hockey. NOTHING about the work their doing to operate within the new realities, what NIL opportunities (if any ??) are out there for enthusiasts who might be interested in contributing.... NOTHING specific or relevant to RPI Hockey that we all care so much about.

Insulting is an understatement... As I told one of the guys in our HFH seating section, it's like they are going out of their way to alienate the faithful... Buffoons.

And to complete my rant, on the first team page I searched - UMASS - what do I find on the menu bar at the top of the team page ? A button that says "NIL". !!! Shocking!! By clicking on it, team enthusiasts are presented with a plethora of information on the platforms available for them to participate in the NIL effort in Amherst. What a concept !!

Nice win last night. Now if they can beat Q-School, that would be something special.
If they’re gonna have a chance to win, they absolutely have to stay out of the box. Quinnipiac had 5 PPG and a shorty last night at Union.

Split weekend for the Cherry and White. At least they sorta hung with Q until the third? Related to the NIL conversation, would it kill RPI to sell actual or replica hockey jerseys instead off their "off brand"-looking jerseys in the bookstore? My selfish hope when it comes to NIL is that there might be the chance of the school starting to sell jerseys with the players' names on them. I am happy to roll the dice at the Blackout but it would be great to have other options.

Can't give their PP unit 6 opportunities. Ask Union about that. The Q 5x3 early in the third was the backbreaker. It was a game until then. Pelosi's breakaway goal showed "speed kills." Also got dominated on faceoffs: Q won 66 %. That said, the first 40 minutes were the best hockey I've seen this team play in a long time. Excellent at both ends of the ice. On to Dartmouth.

The score was 6-2 correct ? The best team in the league coming off an easy win playing away against a bad team that had a relatively easy game albeit against a fellow bottom feeder this was a perfect trap game and we didn't even come close it magnifies just how far away we are ! Again somebody is going to have to sit me down w/ our recruit list and underclassman and.show me how this is going to get better you can forget the portal it's like crack to us because no impact player is looking to transfer to a last place team @ a school where you have to at least attend class. As far as I know and I'll stand corrected the Pres of the college the AD and.the Head Coach haven't even acknowledged that thing are not going well Crickets ! So I've resigned myself to the fact that for the long time fans (put me down for 60 yrs) we are witnessing the demise of b a once thriving and proud program. SAD!

Looking at the schedule I only saw one maybe two wins left on the schedule after the freakout. Princeton and possibly Harvard which we seem to play tough in Cambridge. I don’t see us beating Dartmouth, colgate, Cornell. Looking like 20 losses again. The recruit list is troubling particularly at the forward position. Kyrokostas is the gem for the forward recruits for next year. I will say I actually think the defenseman we having coming in are very good. I was very concerned about the goalie spot but getting krawchuk put that to rest. He will come in ready to be the starter. Portal who knows? We need a couple forwards for sure. I have to say tapper is a great player. I was not expecting him to come in and put up points like this.
But…. Unless significant investments are made to the program this will become the new normal. Significant changes need to happen with this coaching staff. Whether that’s clean house or changing the assistants. We take too many penalties. We are soft defensively, leaving the goalies out to dry frequently. We never seem to be ready to play when the puck drops?? We rarely win at home. Yet if you look at our offensive stats we are quite good. Averaging over 3 goals a game which is something we haven’t done in a while. We just can’t keep the puck out of the net. Time for a new staff to correct this. This staff simply has no answer for this.

Spot On !

I noticed that the father of women's player Maddy Papineau is Rob Papineau the VP and GM of the Sudbury Wolves (OHL) https://rpiathletics.com/sports/womens-ice-hockey/roster/maddy-papineau/19146. That is the team where RPI men's recruits Nate Krawchuk and Jack Ziliotto are playing. I suspect that he had something to do with Krawchuk committing to RPI and Ziliotto going there from the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Conceivably, I noticed this earlier and forgot.

That's what age can do to you. Sometimes I also forget what I had forgotten.

I probably won't be on the game threads this weekend. I am spending all my time attempting to get my computer up. I had to replace the storage drive and figuring out how to install everything is very time consuming.

One of the things I truly hate doing. I do not upgrade to a new computer and try to live with my older system for as long as possible.

Agree with all of this 100% Add in the risk that we might lose guys like Hotson, Tapper, Rullers etc. who could easily get poached by other teams. We're in tough shape...
