RPI 2023 Off-season: We March Fourth Into the Off-season

Great job with the Smitty interview tonight Sezenack ! Lots of good information and it definitely wet the appetite for the upcoming campaign. I won't spoil the details for those who haven't yet viewed ! Congrats to you and Brendan.

Thanks guys! Glad to hear that it was enjoyed. I'll try to get the recording up on Youtube soon for the people who couldn't make it live

Today is 16 August 2023. There are 52 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 7 October 2023 for the start of next season.

An hour of RPI hockey talk in August! Now on to the season! Thanks!

Great interview. Biggest takeaway for me is how committed the new president is to hockey and the feasibility study for the HFH.
Coach smith mentioned he was on the selection committee for the new AD.

He also mentioned that the AD search is wrapping up. He was hoping for the new AD to be announced and present for the golf outing on Monday

I missed the first 15-20 minutes and had several more questions that I assumed had been covered (new scheduling philosophy, insight on a couple of recruits, etc.) and upon re-watch, you and your audience nailed every one of them. I'm still concerned about those first 8 games, but the coach seems to feel the team needs the challenge and seems confident - or at least as confident as I can glean from his almost deadpan style. The man never seems to be too high or too low. He's the very definition of even-keeled. He even manages to strongly compliment the new administration without feeling the need to bash the old one. He lets the circumstances speak for themselves.

And if that's the case, then I would think they'd announce the hire today or tomorrow ???...or would they do it at the golf outing ? Personally, I'd do it in advance of the golf outing, but that's just me !

Listened to the YouTube posting of the interview. Thanks for doing it. It was fun to watch and just what the doctor ordered. A couple things. Coach Smith talked about how Covid really hurt the program and how he still hears about it. It hurt a lot of people and impacted many aspects of life. Putting it behind the team seems to still be a bit of a challenge. But I am more convinced than ever that what will bring the players to Troy and the fans to the seats is an improved or new facility. Having a study group is nice, but it will take years before any of us or any potential recruits see any concrete results. I doubt very much a potential player would get all excited about something they won’t see until long after they have left RPI. It won’t have any impact on my butt being in a seat cheering on both the men’s and women’s teams. But it sure would be nice.

I agree with this, but I do think that it's important to get it right. If they build a new rink, it has to be top-notch. If they do renovations, they must also be top-notch while keeping the HFH special. It's not easy to do those things, so I like that they're taking the time to ensure the quality of either project before it begins.

In the meantime, if the on-ice product keeps improving now with COVID mostly in the past, that should hopefully be enough to continue attracting recruits (and transfers) until the facilities are updated

I married mine.

Assuming it worked out for you over the long haul, glad there once was such a result somewhere. Dated mine a while back for a little over year or so. Using the frequency of present day contact (absolutely none) as a barometer, not the best idea there ever was. Fortunately, now retired. Can't happen again.
