RPI 2023 Off-season: We March Fourth Into the Off-season

“We appreciated the opportunity to coach them. This team will never be together again,” said Smith. “They have their own personal agendas that will start to come out and be more visible here in the next hour, day, weeks, etc. This team forever needs to be a team.”

Not sure what this means but it seems Dave is bracing for some departures. Source - COLLEGE HOCKEY: RPI’s season comes to swift ending with 4-1 loss to Yale – troyrecord

Wait......the Troy Record is still in existence ? HA

Hmmm, I've re-read this and the entire article a couple times, and I cannot tell if it's referring to all the injuries or if it is departures

That's four of the last five seasons with 20+ losses. Troubling on its face but especially in light of the fact that our Out of Conference schedule is not very challenging.

I believe its 5 in the last 6 -- if you count Seth's last season.

Some research a friend did:

Seth had 3 in 11 seasons
Fridge had 3 in 12
Powers never got below 15
Adessa never below 18

I believe we played a different amount of total games in those season. I think we should just compare percentages of games won or lost. 1965-1966 was the worst season in RPI history that i saw and we did not lose 20 games that year (we lost 19 but only played 22 official games). I am not very hopeful about next year as yet. There is some talent due to come into the program next year and we are not totally sure who will be officially gone after this year. Also, as many have mentioned, we might see something from the transfer portal (or lose someone unexpectedly). Obviously this was not a good year. If there is not a significant improvement next year, we should not be able to blame the pandemic any more.

I forgot yesterday. It always takes a while to remember to do this everyday.

Today is 6 March 2023. There are 215 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 7 October 2023 for the start of next season.

Does anyone know the time that the game ended? I need it for my spread sheet to determine when the offseason is half over and other nonsense. The best I can do is use that time at which posts on our game thread indicated it was over. The obvious places don't give it.

I have no inside knowledge, but would be shocked if Muzzatti returns for next year. The nature of the off-ice game has changed and why would he stay?

I don't, but the ESPN+ replay is 2:10:55 from puck drop to final horn. I don't know the time when the puck dropped.

Just a thought: the amount of reps can be more important for a young player than whether you can get on a better team. He's pretty much a lock for the first line and power play unit and will get way more reps at RPI than with a better team next season. There are also some family connections to RPI.

Even with the transfer dynamics, I still think there will be a good number of kids out there that will want to build something better at the schools they are currently enrolled in.

Dan Bahl said something interesting at the end of Saturday's game. I don't remember it precisely but speaking about next season it was on the order of "We had Senior Night last week but you never know with the graduate year how rosters might look." Was that just a gratuitous comment or might he know something? Mahshie coming back would make me ecstatic, but I'd also be happy with Klee or Walsh.

Would be great to have them all back. I am not optimistic, but here's hoping.

DrD please send my love to the lovely and beautiful Nurse Jenny.

Will most certainly do that. Have not seen you in ages but can tell you that only I have gotten older. She remains almost exactly as you might remember. Perhaps even a bit more sassy with age.
