$425K annually ...starting now, with $15k annual bumps.

1. This will make him the highest paid public employee in the entire state of Maine, by far.

2. Barr was quoted in the press release as follows: "With the commitment from the school and the generosity of the Alfond Foundation, we feel Black Bear hockey can sustain success for years to come."

We need an "Alfond Foundation" of our own. Hopefully this is where Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Bowers can be of assistance. The late Harold Alfond owned Dexter Shoe and the family has given lots of money to Maine colleges and universities over the years. Two family members are currently part of the Boston Red Sox' ownership group.

Well Ralph I will say this whatever it is it’s too much lol
pretty bad return on investment for your alma mater.

Barr was the play here when Smith got it. No amount of spinning by some here makes any sense about him not being the hire.

I don’t disagree with this. I don’t think any of us on here that have supported Smith have argued against Barr at all. Actually at the time I kind of was interested in Bill Riga, who has done a nice job at HC.

I might be out of the loop on this, but why are we under the assumption that RPI didn’t offer the role to Barr? Doesn’t seem unreasonable that he could have turned us down back in 2017.

Assuming that information would have to come from the Barr camp. Anyone at RPI would obviously have to say Dave was the first choice.

No offer was made to Barr.

Couple things for the purpose of some pregame debate: I would find it odd that Barr would go through the interview process at his alma mater to turn them down, so I would lean that we did not offer him, but that whole search was not regarded well by most people so who knows. But you're going to have to drop a source for me to believe that definitive of a statement. But nonetheless, it seems as if McElroy and co. wanted the anti-Seth, an older coach with HC experience as opposed to the younger assistant. Which brings me to my next point in the BB space, everyone on here clamors for Kirk to undo the Barr decision since they are both alums. Talk of recruiting skills, etc. Isn't Joe Dumais a WAY more qualified candidate? He has won two national championships and has recruiting ties from 15 years of NCAA coaching, 12 or so in the ECAC. I would say that Kirk has the alum connection like Barr, but Dumais is the budding star assistant the same way Benny was 7 years ago. I also think Joel Beal is a name that would get thrown around if we have a search anytime soon, he used to coach Albany Academy and Union. To me, Dumais is a slam dunk candidate for anyone, that will be a top head coach in the next 5-10 years.

My understanding from when Barr was hired at Maine was that he was the runner up at RPI, Merrimack, and UVM. The reason given was that he didn’t interview well, which always seemed odd to me. I’ve got my own theory but wouldn’t want to speculate.

The Barr matter bugged me tremendously for a long while...but it is what it is as the kids say. Dumais was in the running for the Union job but IIRC he pulled his name out (I'd guess that Q'pac gave him a healthy pay bump). Interesting that a guy with zero college coaching experience - Mike Harder - is having a great start at Colgate. Beal is with Leaman at Providence and coaches the Defense and PK.....that wouldn't hurt given RPI's woes in that area !

Hey, I just read that Mongo Bennett got fired from his ECHL job....any chance RPI would take a run at him ? Ha ha.... lol

Nice win last night. Watson absolutely stood on his head. We were out shot again. I guess that the formula going forward

Lol regarding Bennett. I think the game has passed Rick by. Good, bad or indifferent, the my way or highway coaching style is dead. Not a Rick fan but wishing the best for he and his fam. Btw- Barr was part of that staff that fueled that Union amazing run, he recruited good players in a small, niche program with no scholarships. He would have rocked it in Troy.

Could care less about shot totals. As long as we find a way to keep the opponents down to 2 goals or less we always have a chance. Would venture to say that if we do that tonight, the game will be up for grabs. There are a lot of aspects to playing defense in hockey and giving up shots is only one of them. So much depends on where the shots are taken from, how well the goalie can see them by keeping the areas in front of him open and clear, and whether the shots are one and done, without rebounds left for second chances. Last night Watson played one of his best games but he had a bit more help than usual by the defense and of course, a lot of luck was involved.

We also have one of the best shooting percentages in the country, so it seems evident they prioritize making the extra pass than just getting shots.

He was not only NOT made an offer he attempted to contact the person whom did the hire to get some feedback on the interview for future reference and His phone call was never returned. That's just a fact.Dave is not to blame for any of that He just for whatever reason is not getting the job done, but make no mistake the blame for this dumpster fire lays right at the feet of Lee McElroy and SJ because the fish stinks from the head down. Its time to slam the brakes on and go a different way. Rmember even Bill Belicheck can get fired to attempt to right the ship !

We played a pretty good game last night. But I don't understand the strategy of playing two defensemen in the three man overtime.
Were we playing for the shootout?

The things one misses when one doesn't watch the game. That is an unusual strategy, but he could indeed have been playing for the shootout..
