Two things,
First, it is great to have a captain on the ice. But you have to wonder why it took so long. Good luck Jake.

Second, why are we adding a freshman now? Won't that affect his eligibility in his senior year? Do we really need him right now?

The rules may have changed, but I think that he can play through the end of the first semester in 2027-8. And if he is worth keeping, he will probably want to move on. :-(

I don't believe that's correct. The NCAA counts playing in either semester as one of the four seasons of participation. He will only be eligible through the 2026-2027 season. We were only carrying 8 defensemen so he may be a straight addition, but I wonder if we lost someone or there's an injury. I don't see any other roster changes yet. I guess we'll have to watch the lineup tonight to learn more.

Goffredo committed to UMass-Lowell in January 2023 while playing with the Austin (MN) Bruins of the NAHL and was then drafted by Des Moines (USHL) for this year.

See https://www.lowellsun.com/2023/01/3...seman-james-goffredo-commits-to-umass-lowell/.

Interesting that he changed his NCAA commitment to RPI earlier this month AND then they decided to have him enroll effective immediately to start playing.

Perhaps a conspiracy? Could certainly have been the enticement needed.

Heisenberg had him as a UM-L decommit a month before he announced for RPI. We won't ever know what happened between Goffredo and the Riverhawks, but it appears that Coach Smith pounced as soon as he was available. In any case, he'll have to be very good in Troy to offset Shirley's gift to Lowell, Owen Savory.

For those interested, due to a Granato "illness":p, Seth Appert will be behind the bench for the underperforming Sabres tonight vs. Columbus. 5PM puck drop. Good luck Seth !

Great weekend for the boys! Amazing how much better results are when the starting goaltender plays

I'm a glass half full guy too, but I also recognize that it helps to be playing a team that's #59 in the pairwise. We're #49. Next weekend we are playing #s 55 and 58 so we must continue digging out of our early season hole. It would be nice to get back to .500 in the ECAC.

Sabres just won in OT. Got a good look at Seth. Hair is a little grayer and was wearing glasses, but the slick back look is still there. Congrats, Seth!

I thought that Seth looked quite a bit older, but then I realized the image in my head was the young 30s Seth that Shirley paraded around to alumni events shortly after he was hired. He must be around 50 now and he looks a hell of a lot better than I did at that age. No matter what, he'll always be able to say he won his first game behind an NHL bench.

I think they were 52 before the weekend, and no reason we can’t celebrate wins against bad teams (especially on the road), as much as we criticize the losses to Maine, PC, BC.

Very close -- 8/9/74 :-)

I watched the post game presser...vintage Seth...crediting the players and asst. coaches for the win ! He is traveling with the team to Ottawa (6PM drop tonight). Sounds like the odds are good he'll be behind the bench again tonight.
