RPI 2023-24: In Our 200th Year, We're Getting It Right

As far as the general public, only for the games against Dartmouth in the first round of the ECAC. One of the Dartmouth mom's that was sitting near me was from Canada. These were the first games she saw in person that year.

The issue was that the very important part the the general public that was banned from the stands were the scouts. Many of the potential returnees left RPI because they weren't sure if "The Queen" was going to let fans in during the 22-23 season. The effects of this on the roster were devastating last year. I am sure this has been explained here before. Only allowing students and Covid tested staff into the rink in 21-22 ruined the program for 22-23.

The post about fans being allowed in 21-22 was responding to someone saying Union didn’t allow fans that year, which isn’t true

I apologize. As far as I know RPI was the most restrictive in 21-22. I do not know of any other school that pulled that crap. When they moved the Vermont at RPI game to Vermont I sent a satirical message to Coach Smith. The virus was going to kill who in Troy? The senior citizen working the door or the overage Zamboni driver? Shirley is a genius at being a big dope.

Marty said:
Out of an abundance of caution I decided to send this email using a Virtual Private Network from outside New York State and the Troy area.

Hopefully it will be virus free like, uh, oh yeah, Vermont.

Hope a semblance of normalcy returns when the wicked witch leaves in the summer.

Just when you think nobody else has it worse than us for players bolting out of here and recruits decommitting left and right, you almost always hear about someone even worse off.

Michigan State fires head case wacko football coach. Michigan State hires new football coach. All three quarterbacks who started games this year were, I guess, supposed to be impressed with the course change. All three entered transfer portal within 24 hours of each other.

We would have to lose all three of our goalies at the end of this season to have any chance of matching that.

For those playing along at home, Q'pac (9-4-1 / 5-0-1) has amassed lopsided wins against AIC 8-0, Harvard 6-0, Cornell 8-4, Colgate 7-4. I didn't have a chance to hear Smitty on Wyland's show yesterday to learn about what voodoo we are planning to stifle that kind of offense. Ha ha....

There is no question about the damage done by the prior admin. Smith has been very honest about it when asked about 'Tute's restrictions and what it did both to the roster at the time as well as the recruits. He has said that he is still asked about it now by families and advisors ....and how serious the school is about hockey , etc.

What do you think Marty can do to "put his arms around this fast?"

Well, it'd be the AD who he hired performing such tasks...it's the HR component of the job....performance review. You have a frank conversation(s) about the record, the upcoming schedule in the next 4 weeks, the players (physical and mental status) and what reasonable expectations would be for W-L, now through year-end. Then you sit down again at the break and revisit the goals outlined.

It's entirely possible this conversation has already happened...formally or informally.

Can’t wait for Friday should be a great game. Lol

I might as well ask as I have wasted enough time on this. Should "wurde" be "wuerde"? (I can't type umlauts here which may have been your problem too.)

Yes, either wuerde or the u with an umlaut. Wow, this really doesn't like html code, does it?

My second post to USCHO this month. I am getting prolific these days.

Yeah no umlauts. Same problem

That was, of course, the reason why my family name was modified. :-D Actually my great-grandfather Nathan Baer's birth record http://www.landesarchiv-bw.de/plink/?f=4-1130352-163 (lower left to upper right) has it spelled Baer in the margin and the umlaut form in the body of the document. The marginal note adds that he adopted the middle name Karl (he used Carl) in 1886. He actually started using Carl in the about 8 years he lived in the US from about 1866 to 1874.

I'm sure Rand will ease up lol

Somewhat surprising odds for this weekend.
Girls - 1.5 goal underdog to Princeton
2.5 goal underdog to QU
Boys - 2.5 goal underdog to QU
0.5 goal favorite over Princeton

I am only slightly surprised by the larger spread against QU for the girls but I cannot quite explain the spread as a slight favorite over Princeton for the boys. I suppose it is simply for home ice.

Any predictions for tonight’s game. I’m predicting qpac with a relatively easy win by a score of 7-2. We match up with them horribly. I think we have a better chance at seeing god tonight than beating qpac. Hopefully we can pull off a lake placid type miracle and win? go red!!

You were correct. The 3rd period was a moral victory of sorts. It sucked that RPI could have tied it at 2 but seconds later were behind 4-1.

What are the students doing this week? Studying for finals? No band, few students, quiet rink.

We simply don’t have the personal to compete with teams like qpac. We lost the special teams battle per usual. The 3rd period seemed like they were just hanging on for dear life to keep the score somewhat respectable. I was wondering the same thing the fieldhouse had a weird vibe to it. Maybe due to the piss poor product on the ice but it’s a weird time for RPI hockey haha

Someone posted last week I’ve seen enough Dave smith needs to go. It will take a miracle for this team to not lose 20+ games. The pp and pk are absolutely terrible. The 5\5 play is average at best contrary to what anyone wants to say. The recruiting pipeline has about 4/5 players that look legit with ironically no goaltender worth a damn. I doubt muzzatti and smolinski will be in Troy next year. Anyone who says we’re on a good trajectory as a program is smoking that shit again. Your full of shit if you believe that crap
