Payant has to be in the lineup. I don't see any way you can leave him on the bench

Yeah no way he’s on the bench. Watching him in person he’s incredibly shifty. He’s not just fast north south but he’s fast East west. And he has complete control while doing so. Nice find by the coaches

I wonder if Benny will show some mercy on his alma mater? He might show Dave who’s boss after losing out on the head coaching position for absolutely stupid reasons. Benny might be getting his point across haha

I would be incredibly surprised if there was anything personal at all. Ben and Dave simply want to win and if not, to at least see that they put the best team on the ice that they can. What ever we see tonight we have to understand it is really the first game - sure we played 2 exhibitions but my experience has always been that the season begins with the first real game. I think we should have more scoring and my concern is more about how well we can use goal tending and defense to shut down offensive teams. i always want to see how our special teams perform and how we are at the fundamentals like face offs which are so important. We are faced with one of the toughest 4 game stretches we have seen on our schedule in a long time and we will have to create some chemistry quickly. Go Red!!

Yeah doc I agree about defense/goaltending.

RPI had 2 shots on goal in the 2nd period. Watson standing on his head. Amazing it’s 2-1. Defense looks lost. Maine is winning every puck battle. You know classic RPI shit

Nice start to the season. Team looked super competitive. Hopefully this was a fluke game cause if that’s what Dave is going to put on the ice fire him now and get someone who can actually recruit and coach.

Save percent 93. Seven more than the winning goalie. That will win games over the long haul. Especially on nights where more than 13 of your shots get to the net.

That was about the only good news - he looked like the freshman Watson. I agree that if he plays like that all season we will win quite a few games. However, we have to do a much better job in front of him. Their skating, stick work and anticipation had our guys on their heels virtually the entire game. Ben had them very well prepared.

I don't know whether it was a brilliant recruiting job or Ben just got lucky with the Nadeaus (although they played junior hockey out west they are from a tiny New Brunswick town just across the St. John river from Maine), but he has put Maine hockey in a position to rise back to HE prominence. It wasn't just the #1 line either - they were impressive top to bottom and from the net on out. Let's hope we can ratchet up our game and at least slow them down a little tomorrow.
