RPI 2021-22 Restart

And I do agree with your view on Union. I am so happy that RPI has put them in the rearview mirror because they may throw a wrench into the playoff hopes of some teams.

I think the smackdown RPI put on Union was a big wakeup call. Coach Sciba was not going to let that happen again. Very good to see them competing strong. Mayor's Cup will be a good game.

There is a ton of parity in the ECAC. Union, even though 0-5, have been very competitive these past few weeks. Not sure how much we can really get out of statistical analysis at this time.

Oh sure, I just like making posts. It's all just for fun, and I think most people know not to really put any stock in KRACH until the midway point of the season.

yes, indeed, it is all just fun for those of us in the bleachers. As an RPI fan I am supposed to hate Union, but I have a fondness for that program and hope that they do well. It is a great college, with a great spirit.

I would regard being out of the bottom 4 is enough to make the season successful.

BTW, I saw a tweet that Lilli Friis-Hansen will miss this weekend because she is with the Danish team attempting to qualify for the Olympics.

I guess we shouldn't complain when we take the #5 team (Colgate) to OT, but I didn't think that was one of the Engineers better games. A lot of turnovers, unforced errors, etc. (and Colgate looked sloppy at times, too). Hopefully we will see a crisper game and a W against Cornell today.

I think all of Colgate's regulation goals were on turnovers. The engineers had a real hard time clearing the zone. They showed a lot of heart by tying the game up after giving up the go-ahead goal with about 2 min left, but yes, that game was very winnable. They need to close those types of games out if they want to make the playoffs. The Cornell game is almost 'must win' in regulation if they want to have a good shot at the postseason.

Very disappointing loss to Cornell today. It just reinforces the importance of all of these games against the teams contending for the last couple of playoff spots. RPI is just not yet where they need to be.

Coach Vines is quite right to say, repeatedly, that the team needs to be focused on the process, not the outcomes, and based on player interviews it seems that all of the women have bought into that. Good. However, sometimes, in a key game like this one against Cornell, there needs to be some of that fire to win.

Today's game against Post should be a good opportunity to give lots of ice time to players who haven't seen a lot of it. You should never take any team for granted, but given Post's record and the fact that it is a non-conference game, I would hope that the coach would seize the opportunity to experiment with lines a bit. I wouldn't expect to see Rampado in net.

In these sorts of games, all I hope for is 1) no injuries 2) work on minimizing mistakes 3) clean up issues (like zone exits).

Really good points Cornholio. I wish for the same! I would add that I would love to see them drive to the net like they were doing at times earlier in the season. Take some knocks but get between the D and the goalie. That is not necessarily consistent with your #1 objective, but I think that in most sports the most likely way to get injured is to play with caution.

I thought last weekend they did get back to crashing the net as the first 2 goals against Colgate were rebounds but the issue was that they did not get enough shots on net to make much of a difference! Tonight they should have a bit more time and space and while playing their grit style will need to continue, I hope to see clean exits, no defensive zone turn-overs, a lot less stick handling in the neutral zone, clean entries and not have to always dump and chase (even if that is the mojo for this team). A more clean hockey game overall.
