One thing which should be added about Dubinsky is that he is a soph and thus not on campus. Besides for the extra 2-hour time difference, it is just as easy to take an on-line course in British Columbia as it is in Illinois, where he lives.

Salmon Arm article about Dubinsky https://www.sasilverbacks.com/silverbacks-add-dubinsky-from-ncaa-ranks

Salmon Arm B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are happy to announce the signing of 20-year-old forward Zach Dubinsky, who played NCAA Div. I hockey last season at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Dubinsky, who is a dual citizen of the United States and Canada, recorded 12 points in 22 games for the RPI Engineers last season, who are a member of ECAC hockey. He previously played for the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League for two seasons, tallying 19 points in 72 games.

“We are extremely pleased to add Zach to our roster, who already has experience at the NCAA level,” Silverbacks general manager Brooks Christensen said. “We feel he will be an impact centre for us. He has a strong hockey IQ and he’s a high character kid. We’re looking forward to having him in our lineup.”

In his final season with the Stars in the USHL, Dubinsky was an alternate captain and won the Chad Johnson Award, given to a player that exhibits outstanding leadership and work ethic on and off the ice, takes part in community service, is a mentor to teammates and upholds a professional demeanour at all times.

The 5-foot-8 forward grew up in Deerfield, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago, and played his AAA youth hockey for the Chicago Mission. Zach’s father Steve played 375 games in the NHL over 10 seasons from 1993-2003.

One of Dubinsky’s teammates last season with RPI was former Silverback forward Chase Zieky, who registered 28 goals and 52 points for the Backs during the 2015-16 season.

The Silverbacks would like to welcome Zach to Salmon Arm!

You're unusually optimistic RB.... I'm thinking he's a goner. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Where would he go? With players gaining a year of eligibility, there will be a glut of players. Unless he turns pro, which seems unlikely considering his size, I think he will come back. Than again, I am usually wrong. ;-D

BTW, with our small class of 2021, the glut won't affect us that much. Of course, we do have Shirley ...

If people are not as afraid of this virus as they/we once were, we are in big trouble. Over 225,000 dead and over 8.5 million infected, with the country hitting the highest infection rate to date, we should be very worried.
How can we beat this and get back to normal if a third of the country won't wear a mask, and 50% won't get the vaccine when it is approved.
There is no media hype. There are only facts.
I would love an RPI hockey season, but I really don't see it happening under the current conditions.
I totally agree that proper precautions need to be taken, but I just don't see that happening. (do you?).

A reasoned, logical medical viewpoint that counters the mainstream media hysteria. Well worth watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-J7HF_JDyY

"...Protecting the elderly and vulnerable is the key....let everyone else live their lives...... "Tracking the number of cases is a complete waste of time.........."
" We will have to cope with COVID just like 200 other diseases we manage every day...." "Science strongly favors the policies we're suggesting" (the Great Barrington declaration).
"We've done more harm than good...we've pushed off the cases to the future" (by locking down). "The lockdown is the single biggest public health mistake I've seen in my career."

I love listening to these, but would it be possible to adjust the levels so that Coach Smith is speaking at a similar level to you and the other interviewers?

This issue is pretty much caused by the fact we are recording through webex and all using our own microphones for the recording. Some of them work better and have better sensitivity than others. I do not do the editing of the sound files, but I can ask the person who does if it is possible to turn up the volume levels so they generally match. I hope you were still able to hear him okay this episode.

Agree 100% Slappaah ... COVID reporting will die down in exactly one week!

I was. It seemed like a problem that should be easy to correct at a tech school. :-D

Today is 28 October 2020. There are 30 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 27 November 2020 (day after Thanksgiving) for the start of next season.

It wasn't the media that shut down the country, it was the government scientists that recommended it. Along with many other scientists in civilized countries.
So I will just have agree to disagree with you.

The media helped create a lot of panic early in the pandemic. And the toll of any "shut down" is devastating.......NYC will take years to recover......look at all the European countries that "shut down" earlier and are going back to the same devastating model. Their people are not reacting to it very well.

Protocols and precautions.......would be an effective approach because the actual survival rate is very, very , very ,very high per CDC website:

Age group Survival Rate
0-19 99.997%
20-49 99.98%
50-69 99.5%
70+ 94.6%

Point is, let the RPI kids at least have a chance to train on campus (like every other hockey campus) ....... with proper protocols and safety measures. Start in phases and at least see how it goes. RPI has to be the most tested campus in the country, with very few positive tests since August.

If this wasn't an election year.............just sayin'

Regarding the Dubinsky situation : he “signed” with the BCHL. Signed for the whole season? Could he come back in January or something? Someone mentioned his taking on line classes. Does he forego his affiliation and any scholarship/financial aid from RPI by doing this? You also allude to his returning? His spot is kept open for him? In a sense the team benefits by having players play somewhere rather than sit and wait or have limited practices. I assume the BCHL is playing hockey. So my last question is if this works for Dubinsky and it looks like the RPI season will be greatly reduced or non existent, why aren’t more players trying this? I get there is a risk to this of the door closing behind you.

Only players born in 2000 or more recently are eligible to play juniors. That doesn't include that many of our players. They also have to find a team willing to take them.

The BCHL is currently playing what they call an extended preseason. ZD could have said that he will leave if and when RPI starts, or he could have committed for the whole season. By "spot", I assume you mean scholarship. I assume he and Coach Smith negotiated what will happen.
