Everybody who runs has their favorite conditions. I hated the rain and cold, but had my best finishing times in the damp drizzle stuff. Wind was another story, did not like it in my face and actually did not appreciate it in my back. Sounds weird but i loved 90+ and 90% humidity. In those days i had a distinct advantage being a tall slim stick figure who did not lose a lot of fluids. With the emergence of the African runners, all of whom you can actually see a weight gain if they swallow so much as an aspirin, that advantage was long gone. No way i could compete with them at the longer distances. I could still hold my own at the mile, 1500 and 5000 meters, but nothing longer. My best times were in my late teens and early twenties (not typical for the better marathon runners who often improve with age). i suppose a big part of it for me is total lack of will power. I never bet a Hostess product i did not like and Devil Dogs do not make for a great pre race meal. Congrats on a really good time in tough conditions for you. I would have been incredibly impressed if you came close to your goal of a 2:40 and got within 30 minutes of the leaders.
