A possible reason we didn’t see Luke sign a professional deal?....... @thegronk5 Had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists. One right after the other. I'm now ambidextrous.

No such thing as "sub-goals." Win more than you lose; make the playoffs; win a couple of playoff series; make the NCAA Tournament; win at least one NCAA tournament game. Those are the goals fans want to see established and reached. How you do it doesn't matter. They don't give points for style. it doesn't matter if you win 20 games 1-0 or 7-6. Just get this program off the mat, and back to being relevant again. Losing a couple of guys early last year and then getting hit so hard with injuries this season really set the program back. If they can stay relatively healthy next winter they should be a factor in the ECAC. If not, then everyone will be justified in saying, "we have a problem (in) Houston."

While "win more than you lose" is an admirable goal, it quickly gives rise to the question, "how do you do that in actuality?" You need some kind of measuring stick or marker to let you know you are on the right path and progressing at the right pace.

That marker is wins and losses. Many coaches divide seasons into segments. With 34 games, you might divide the season into three 11 game segments, with one game left over. Set a goal of winning more than you lose in each of those thirds with the ultimate goal to be playing your best hockey - winning the most games - in the final third, leading into the post-season. Stats - PP %, shots on goal, etc. don't matter. "Just win baby."

When a team has many freshman and sophomores, it is reasonable to expect that the first 1/3 or 2/3 of the season would produce fewer wins than the last 1/3, but the ultimate goal is to win competitions.

Bingo. As much as you can focus on fundamentals to help increase the probability of achieving the "W" ("Chance favours the prepared mind." --Travis Dane, "Under Siege 2"), many games we play have the team scoring goals doing it on a counter-attack, and that probability goes right out the window. How to achieve the W depends on the opponent.

That'd do it.

With the amount of time people spend in front of keyboards nowadays, I'm surprised more people don't need it.

I think the pharmacies stock a zillion of those wrist braces for that exact reason. The incidence is actually decreasing some lately as more people use tablets and cell phones rather than keyboards on older traditional computers.

I read from a fairly reliable source that it was actually nagging. Considering he was able to do what he did for all that time, I'm quite stunned.

It's like our team is more happy about who we get to play than winning

There's not too much winning to be done in the next few months (unless you're Carlos Estevez, of course), so might as well look forward to the schedule.

Remember that his granddaughter (Gordon's, not Carlos's) will be playing goal for the women's team in the fall. :)

Fish: i have been a big fundamentals guy forever. When we started slipping in the standings each year, that was what I kept talking ab out because my focus has always been that this is the ultimate team sport and you have to do certain things as a team well. i could list them all but truthfully we do very few of them well. We have great kids and they change every year and yet we have played the same hockey for years. I do not expect to get the Eichels of the world to RPI. But we have had enough talent to win and at least get to the final four of the ECAC several times and perhaps a couple of NCAA tournaments. But we have not. I am not asking for too much, at least I do not think so. But, fundamentals like winning face offs, making good line changes, keeping the puck in the offensive zone when you have a man advantage either with the power play or when pulling the goalie, taking the same number or less penalties than the opponents, etc. These are just mandatory and we have paid the price for not doing them. Very frustrating to be an RPI fan these days. I can imagine it might be also very frustrating to be an RPI player. Most of these kids could have gone to lots of other programs and played in the national spotlight that they are not getting in Troy. I echo you rthoughts completely and truly wonder where this program is headed.

Frustrating indeed – to almost everyone - fans, players and hopefully to the administration. Appert has repeatedly run through the gamut of post-game bromides, platitudes, clichés, etc. all to little avail - after all this time it is apparent it isn’t translating to the ice. Perhaps it is a communications problem, or even more insidious, the adjustments being made during the games are just plain wrong. However, and there have been numerous theories on this board as to why talent isn’t resulting in victories, what will become more and more apparent is that if the program continues to founder it will become more difficult each year to recruit talent to Troy as prospects will opt for more promising programs. I fear the constant losing is becoming self-fulfilling and each year it will become that much more difficult to dig out of the hole that has been created at HFH.

Any reports from the banquet? Is there a preliminary schedule?

I realize WaP has been tweeting.
