RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Re: RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Football: RPI 35 Norwich 0 at the half.

Final RPI 37 Norwich 0
Boring football at its finest in the second half with numerous RPI rookies playing their first college game. Yes, we got a safety.

Re: RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

I only caught the tail end of the football telecast on RPI TV, but I noticed that, after shaking hands with the opposing team, RPI's players gathered at the southwest corner of the field and sang along as the band played "Hail, Dear Old Rensselaer." I thought that was a nice touch.

Is that something new this year, or have they been doing that for a while?

Not hockey-related, but still very exciting...Andrew Franks has beat out Caleb Stugis as the kicker on the Dolphins!

Can any other D3 school say they have players in the NHL and the NFL at the same time?

I know that they don't introduce the kicking teams on tv, but it would be great to hear just one time, Andrew Franks, RPI.

I suppose it depends on what your definition of "corporate" is...If you're looking for Jeff Immelt, then I can't help, but in just the two immediate rows in my section my neighbors include a car dealer, owner of construction firm and a partner in a large medical practice...

That said, the three "boxes" HFH currently has are nothing more than dark musuems with SAJ occasionally gracing the larger one with her presence with some alumni. It'd be nice if AD McElroy could see to it that the "Common folks" could have a shot at renting one for parties and special occasions...

That is good representation by the local business community; I guess there is indeed a very good reason to have suites that people can rent for a better viewing / drinking / dining experience during the games. Might be handy for recruiting too though no doubt there is a plethora of NCAA rules to be navigated first....

It crossed my mind while out this morning that I think that the Giants had a kicker from SLU a while back. Does anyone remember? They may have had an NHL player at the same time.

Re: RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Dave Jennings (St Lawrence) was a punter for the Giants and then the Jets in the 70's and maybe early 80's. I don't know if if SLU had anyone in the NHL at that time.

Jennings indeed was whom I was thinking of. Time does fly. He was in the NFL from 1974 to 1987, the last three with the Jets. Gary Croteau overlapped with him in the NHL, perhaps others also. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=1170
