RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

Re: RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

So the tie isn't exactly what we wanted, but Yale lost to Brown, so we actually end up a point ahead in the bargain. Let's win tomorrow and let Yale lose again!

Re: RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

Another two points! Yale wins too so we don't make up as much ground as we could have this weekend, but it's a start! The math update will come some time tomorrow!

Really wanted 4 points this weekend, rather than 3, but we did inch closer to both Yale and Dartmouth, who came out with 2 and zero points this weekend respectively. Looking at the remaining schedules, our best hope is closing the 5 point gap with Yale, as we have a head-to-head with them and they have a tougher remaining schedule than either Dartmouth or RPI. In fact, apart from the game against RPI, Yale has only one game left against a team below them in the standings. Still RPI will have to go on a tear over these last 4 weekends. Have to win at minimum 3 of our last eight games (if Yale were to lose all eight) but more likely have to win as many as 5 out of eight.

Three points aren't as good as four, but we gained on Yale and Dartmouth, so we're looking just a smidge better this week than last. Looking forward, Colgate is nipping at our heels and this weekend is the perfect opportunity to knock them back down and gain more ground on Yale, who have to make the trek to the North Country this weekend. All in all, we want at least two points this weekend, and for Yale to end up with nothing. Should Dartmouth come out empty-handed too, who would we be to complain?

Re: RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

Does she also have an uncle named Gordon?

See post 150. Her grandfather, Harry, was the source of the character. He was on the BSU roster in 67-68 but did not get into any games according to a BSU media guide that I found on line..

I wonder if she or men's recruit Alex Rodriguez will get more ribbing. I suppose an important part is whether The Mighty Ducks is still watched, but it probably is since I guess that you are only six or seven years older than she is, and you have heard about it and probably seen it.

Edit: And then there will be Meirs Moore whose father, Skeeter, played in the semifinal NCAA game vs. RPI in 1985.

Re: RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

This game is not going the way we need it to.

EDIT: Poop. Well, we can beat Cornell and make this work.

EDIT 2: And Yale beat Clarkson. Potentially disastrous night for us.

Us losing two points we needed to the worst possible team to lose them to, along with Yale earning two points against a team they really shouldn't have puts us in a major bind. If we want to have a prayer of making the second season, we need to steal some points this weekend. Luckily, we're at home and Clarkson and SLU aren't exactly bulletproof. It'll be tough, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

I've got it right here ready and waiting for you all nice and clean and warm. It'll feel good and comforting when you wrap yourself up in it to soothe you when you finally give in to the reality that it's over. It's been over for a long time now.

Can we PLEASE think about getting a new coach???? These girls are looking worse; this coach cannot adapt as other teams do. Other teams improve as the season goes on, but RPI does not (evidence last year's 0-9-1 collapse losing to all but Union of the bottom teams and this year's total debacle). Even Union seems to be playing better this year! This is D1 hockey, not everyone participates hockey! What competitive team plays everyone?? Teams usually shorten the bench, not rotate 7D! #17 plays like a forward and is very (-) in stats cause she's not playing D, move her to forward! You'll have 8D next year based on graduation and incoming recruits; going to play 8D next year?!! Yes, you have to keep the puck out of your own net, but you have to score too!! That seems to be as big an issue yet no one is discussing that! Cornell announcer made it pretty clear (having said it about three times!), RPI is dead LAST in PP and PK NATIONALLY!!!!! Change should've happened at the end of last season. Coaches need to be held accountable. Let's change it up and see what we can do going forward.

Re: RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

One would think Burke is likely to be on his way out, with the team set to miss the playoffs two years in a row for the first time since making the jump to D-I. I have no idea what the women's coaching landscape looks like and what is available to replace him. I suppose all of this will be up to the new AD when he/she is eventually named. Like I said, I'm not done with this season yet and I hope the team and staff feel the same way. We'll see.

You could make an offer to Shannon Miller. She says she's willing to work for less.

Re: RPI 2014-2015: Goin' back to the playoffs

I don't see her going to a low end, low profile program like that. I think there needs to be a change for sure but I don't see anyone ever being able to turn RPI into an NCAA tournament caliber team.

I don't think there's likely to be a ton of teams, much less NCAA championship contenders, likely to be looking for a head coach next season. It's not likely she's going to have a ton of options available to choose from.

Agreed. If she wants to coach D1 hockey next year her only options might be RPI or Union. Definitely high time for a change there. Mankato should be looking to make a change too in my opinion. It would be fun to see her stay in the WCHA. If she really doesn't care about her salary, how fun would it be to see her take over a D3 program?!
