RPI 2013-2014 Season

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Article about 14-15 schedule with link to schedule http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2014/5/21/WICE_0521142727.aspx.

Interesting schedule that gets away from the steady diet of Hockey East teams for non-conference games. Nice to see 4 games against Western teams and also nice to see that RPI and RIT will meet for the first time since they were both D3. They used to have a good rivalry in D3, hopefully can rekindle it. The non-conference schedule is interesting but mostly made up of teams that (like RPI) finished in the bottom half of the rankings. Apart from the first road trip out west where they face #3 UND and #16 Bemidji, the remaining 9 non-conference games are against teams ranked 20 or lower.

I think you're looking at the men's rankings if you have UND ranked that high.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Nice to be able to post in an RPI hockey thread whose title does not contain the word "drivel." Been a long time since I could do that on a men's thread.

Anyway, I note that according to the schedules, on Saturday of Homecoming weekend this October, the football team will play St. Lawrence at 1 PM while the women's hockey team will play UVM at 3 PM. I guess the hope is that people leaving the football game will stop by the Field House for the second and third periods of the hockey game.

I might be in the Troy area for Homecoming weekend. I haven't been to an RPI football game since they played on '86 Field and I've never been to a women's hockey game. I know that the last time I was on campus for a men's hockey game, I parked in the North parking lot and there was a shuttle bus to and from the Field House.

Does the shuttle bus run between North lot and the ECAV for football games? Does it run between North lot and the Field House for women's hockey games? Or does it only run for men's hockey?

AFAIK, it does not run for women's hockey games. There shouldn't be any problem finding a spot near the Field House for any of those games. It's a shame, cause those games are fun and the women really play hard. You should find the time to come out and watch, they deserve support. I'm rarely around for football games so I have no idea if the shuttle bus runs or not.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

As I recall, the parking lot for the hockey game will be used for the football game so parking WILL be an issue. It may be blocked off for limited parking (with an attendant) before the football game. Once the game starts however, you may be able to get in and find a spot. I've done it before, just got lucky!

Usually by now we have seen an announcement of Captains for the coming season. Did I miss it?

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Ralph Baer posted this link on the men's site. Shows that the RPI women's team has the highest level of athletic scholarships of any D1 team, male or female. Followed closely by Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

http://www.scholarshipstats.com/hockey.html

I'm pretty sure you are reading this wrong. The notes for the column that says "Average Athletically based Student aid per athlete" shows that that number relates to all student athletes. I'm thinking the division 3 schools that only sponsor hockey at the division 1 level are showing up at the top of the list because those schools are only averaging hockey athletes because no other athletes are eligible to receive any scholarship money.

At a big school you may have for example over 200 men and women on a track team sharing 30 scholarships or 120 women sharing 20 rowing scholarships. That drives the average down per athlete but that doesn't mean anything as it relates to average scholarship in the hockey program.

You're right. I failed to read the *** footnote, which explains your point.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

In looking at it more, RPI might be close to the top anyways because the three key factors are cost of attendance, roster size and number of scholarships actually used.

I didn't realize the cost of attendance for RPI is over $61,000. I suspect very few students actually pay this amount but that's another story.

Boston University is even more expensive and I believe they also use 18 scholarships.
