RPI 2013-2014 Season

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Jordan Smelker one of three nominees for ECAC Defensive Forward of Year..... http://www.ecachockey.com/women/2013-14/News/20142802_Best_Def_Forward_Finalists

This is SO good to see. I didn't even know there was such an award but it is an important one, and JS should win it. I have watched most of the RPI games this year and have been amazed at the way that she covers the ice with her relentless forechecking and backchecking. No wonder that she gets invited to the USA national team try-outs. Definitely RPI's MVP for this year! She is one of the big reasons that RPI has tended to outshoot their opponents all year, because she just gets the puck! Too bad the team didn't do more with the puck once she got it for them ;).

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

yep, we didn't make the playoffs but we have a Defensive Forward of Year. Great. Let's recruit a few more forwards that can't score.

Hey, I'm sure all RPI supporters are frustrated by the end of the season and the team does need more scorers, but don't take it out on Jordan Smelker. She is a great player and represented the Tute very well. Any coach in the ECAC would be happy to have had her on their team.

From the RPI directory:

Name: Whitney Logan Renn
Class: First-Year Student
Curriculum: Business and Management

Name: Marisa Raspa
Class: First-Year Student
Curriculum: Undeclared

Amanda Kimmerle and Shayna Tomlinson were mentioned here earlier.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Shayna Tomlinson received All-scholastic honors from the Boston Globe http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/03/29/preps-all-scholastics/QF6hyoxMPStyAQwwhe1ghJ/story.html. The came up when I searched for Drew Melanson RPI because there is a Drew and a Melanson there.

Shayna Tomlinson

ISL: St. Paul’s, hockey

The senior captain had 32 goals and 25 assists, ending her career with 81 goals and 92 assists. She had eight game-winning goals this season. Those numbers earned her ISL co-MVP honors. She’ll attend RPI.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

I will post what I found about the three players in the previous post in my usual posts on the men's thread. BTW here are three videos that Lovisa Selander posted https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSFe7isvmoG36FFfex691LQ

Edit: If anyone finds Chicago Young American stats for this year please post them. Also Selander's home town and anything else which I could not find.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Well that was pretty much a waste of time. Renn played D again. She isn't bad, but hopefully she is better at forward. Orzechowski did not dress. I won't mention the reason that I overheard a couple of parents discussing. I only watched the first two periods of NAHA's game for the championship against the Whitby Wolves. Although I might have missed something I only saw Raspa take one shift. NAHA had 12 forwards listed (I didn't check if all were dressed) and essentially skated two lines. There have some impressive talent on those lines and on D. I also didn't stick around of LC's last game for the group B Championship (essentially 9th place).

Edit: I just did some research as to why Annie Pankowski was playing for NAHA as a 2013 graduate when she obviously was twice as good as anyone else in the tourney. There is always an obvious explanation. :D (I had never heard of her.)

I just realized that Jaime Grigsby was playing for Whitby vs. NAHA in the final http://www.jwhl.org/stats/team_inst...84&tab=team_instance_player_stats&tool=961460, and I also saw her in part of at least two more games. Too bad that I wasn't paying attention to her at all.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Selander apparently played some in a men's league in 2012-13 http://stats.swehockey.se/Teams/Info/TeamRoster/3084. (See under SDE HF.) She played 4 periods in two games with a .931 save percentage and 1.50 GAA http://stats.swehockey.se/Players/Statistics/LeadingGoaliesSVS/3084.

hab, do you know anything personally (which you can say) about any of the players, or was your opinion on them based upon what is on the net?

No, I don't know anything about these three other than what I can pick up from the internet. Selander does look like the real find of the three.
