Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

no point weekend *sigh sigh sighsighsigh* it's amazing what two losses can do:

Mean Point Total: 19.46
Range - 3rd - 11th
Mean Rank - 7.53
Median Rank - 8th
Mode Rank - 8th
Home Playoffs - 0.3%
Playoffs - 73.5%
Most likely opponent - @Harvard (22.9%)

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Looks like we have another Forward committed for next season: Marisa Raspa, NAHA, 1 goal 3 assists in 31 games last season. Anyone know anything about her?

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

She committed yesterday according to several tweets on her page https://twitter.com/Raspy12.

Her line this year is 52-5-7-12-28 with several games not reported from the NAHA website. http://www.winter-hawks.org/roster_players/3246690

Would guess that RPI came up short against their recruiting target or they found out someone isn't returning next season and she is a recruited walk-on that had the academics to get in. Probably falls into the "best available" category at this very late point in the recruiting process....

My thought was that she is a replacement for Nona Letuligasenoa who also played for NAHA and has not been a big contributor in the scoring department. I add that this is definitely not based upon any knowledge of Raspa's playing ability. She is indeed likely to be a recruited walkon or getting some other kind of money. BTW, note that on 10/27 she has a PPG but no goal. Must be a typo.

I did stumble upon an article from two years ago where she scored 4 goals in a game back in Pennsylvania.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Tough 4-2 loss to SLU, tonight. This is another game we should have won. This RPI team is just too talented to be scrapping for one of the final playoff berths, which is where they now find themselves.

Again, a lot of positives to take away from this game, so many in fact that you still have to believe that if they just keep playing their game they will not only make the playoffs but be a real threat to whoever they meet. Very impressed with Smelker's skating again, but also Svoboda, Gruschow (I shouldn't have started naming players because there are others that should be on this list). Smelker really should be a first string all-star in this conference, but usually the voting for such things puts too much emphasis on point production, so she may not be.

Only glaring weakness for the team tonight (and its not the first time I've said this)...some bad penalties (the refs were a bit whistle-happy, 'though) with a poor PK...a dangerous combination. The game winning goal was another instance of RPI's PK giving the opposition's Defence all day and acres of space on the point to set up. Surprising, given the speed of some of our forwards, that we don't put more pressure on them to handle the puck quickly.

Tomorrow Clarkson. Engineers will need nothing short of their A game to come away with a point or two in that one.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Engineers were in tough today against a very impressive Clarkson squad, losing 5-1. Engineers took a lot of penalties early and gave up 3 PPGs, then the refs seemed to put the whistles away and the game got a little chippy in the third. Nice to see the team never quit, and also nice to see Piper come up with a solid performance, facing a ton of shots in the 4 periods she played on the weekend.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Oh god the no-point weekends are going to kill us.

Mean Point Total: 17.80
Range - 4th - 11th
Mean Rank - 7.96
Median Rank - 8th
Mode Rank - 8th
Home Playoffs - 0.004% (gotta have faith......)
Playoffs - 67.0%
Most likely opponent - @Harvard (24.1%)

Fun Fact: Due to rounding error, Brown will miss the playoffs 100.1% of the time this season.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

A "must" win for RPI today against Brown? Video available on Ivy Sports Network. Pre-game interview with John Burke suggests that he will shake up the lines a bit for this one, and that they recognize that special teams have to improve. Go Engineers!

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Although I probably won't do it, I am thinking about going to the Kettler Capitals Iceplex (the Washington Capitals' practice facility which sits on top of a mall parking garage) next weekend. The U19 Challenge Cup will include both Little Caesars (Renn and Orzechowski) and NAHA White (Raspa).

The last time that I went to watch a recruit play it was shortly after I found out that we were after Matt Tinordi and his brother. It turned out that they both were serving suspensions and didn't play. :) I also saw Pat Koudys there for a Capitals' rookie camp.

Re: RPI 2013-2014 Season

Not what we wanted out of this weekend. Not at all.

Mean Point Total: 16.16
Range - 4th - 12th
Mean Rank - 8.22
Median Rank - 8th
Mode Rank - 9th
Home Playoffs - 0.002%
Playoffs - 56.5%
Most likely opponent - @Harvard (19.8%)

Nope, not what we wanted or needed. Now 0-5-1 for the last 3 weekends. Not to make excuses for the team, but I thought that Aubree Moore's performance in the Brown net was the best goaltending I have seen all season. If she doesn't win Goalie of the Week something's wrong. Stopped 51 shots to shut out RPI, including a number of high quality chances, and then allowed 1 goal on 27 shots the next day against Union (.987 save percentage...not too shabby).

You should go Ralph. I find that those opportunities to see RPI players, men or women, before they enroll, just adds to the interest that fans like us have in the game. I was able to watch Matt Tinordi a couple times when he played for Olds, Allen York when he played for Camrose, and of course Jordan Alford, and not coincidently they became my favourite players for RPI ;). It has been a long time since RPI women's team has successfully recruited from Western Canada (Kendra Dunlop, from Granum Alberta was recruited for the '07-'08 season) so I haven't seen a women's recruit for ages.

Moore had a similar stellar 54 save performance in a win earlier in the year.

Yeah, watching her this weekend really opened my eyes, so I started to look more closely at her record. I think that if she wasn't playing for a cellar-dwelling team fans would be a lot more familiar with her name.
