RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

They added a parking garage behind the rink in the past few years, so finding parking at Yale isn't as bad as it used to be.

In 15 years I've never had a problem finding parking at Yale. I usually park around the corner on Trumbull Street (straight down the street and I'm back on the highway). If you want off-street parking and don't want to pay $5 for the garage (or to wait for the garage to empty), there is a free lot off Whitney Avenue (Lot 22 on Yale parking maps) that is just behind the buildings on the other side of Prospect Street.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Thanks for the advice guys. I will be joining the crew that will be at whatever the bar is called beforehand with the meet and greet with two other fellow RPI alum, fans, and friends of mine. Alumni Relations lady told me on the phone that over 200 RPI alumni will be in attendance (pretty solid in my opinion), their block has almost run out of open spots, and that the rest of the arena is at standing room only status for tickets. Considering I generally like the way the Yale team plays hockey and that Yale vs. RPI is always a fun, fast, high-offense game to watch, it should be a great time.

Unfortunately this will be only the third ECAC rink I've ever been to. I'm planning on expanding my resume next season. I'm sure you can guess the other two I have been to, one which I will not go back to after my last experience there fearing for my life and safety, and having to listen to comments like "See, RPI is classless! Your team doesn't even shake hands after a game!" my response, "have you never been to a home-and-home series before? They do it after the second game. Please learn about the culture a bit before making baseless assumptions." RPI fans next to me burst into laughter.

Definitely more than one fan, but your point still stands.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a reference to Eddie Haskell is relevant, though.

This old dude at work calls me Eddie Haskell..I dont even know who Eddie Haskell is. I just call him old and move on.

Once again the guys and OGC giving back to the community. Awesome to see them honoring those who gave so much for our freedom. Seth is a class pesron. Proud to call him Our Great Coach.

Agree Aspy-a really class person. Now all he has to do is move us up to First Class.;)

Props to E Stewart Jones for sponsoring the shirts. When we get arrested at Union next year, let's use him as our attorney!!!!

It'll be for daring to make a peep, or at least that's what their fat rent-a-cops will use as justification for ejecting you while the mouth-breathers in the student section reek of cheap schnapps and cigarettes while chanting every profanity known to man. They don't have a very wide vocabulary.

This is perhaps the most excellent post ever.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Somebody indicated a while back that the Jean-Yves Roy who played for Maine and was with Joe Juneau on the '92 Canadian Olympic team and the Jean-Yves Roy who is now a referee in the ECAC and Hockey East were not the same person - I don't think that was accurate.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

So much deflection happening in the Union thread right now I can't handle it. Again, let the hilarity continue.

By the way, we're all nerds for doing stat analysis and pointing out how most metrics are massively flawed. Just take that as a point of pride. Any time you use the term "standard deviation" it makes everyone go bonkers with accusations about how nerdy we are (here's me thinking it was a basic high school senior-level mathematics concept). Engineering onward!

Thanks for the shout out in the Union thread, Ralph. If I wer confident that most of them knew how to read a box plot, I would think my graph would help show why the mean is a bad way to report PIM. I didn't put the mean on the plot, but RPI (and a couple of other teams, including Union) have means above their third quartile.

"but... but... but Schott only said he APPEARS to strike a student!"

Apparently video is capable of lying in Schenectady. Or maybe Occam's Razor suggests to them that the most logical explanation is that RPI altered the tapes to show Bodie starting the whole thing with one of the cheapest of cheap shots and White Mike Tyson connecting with a shot to Bubela's head.

And how can you not love the blowing off of statistical analysis based solely on the factor of the inability to understand it? Comedy gold. Almost everything Union does, from their banners to their banter, it almost seems like they want to be laughed at.

Even if they can't read it, they should realize that RPI's box is typical for the league and not nearly the highest.

If anything, they'd see the top point of their box and use that to show they're the least penalized team in the ECAC.

To quote the dudes from NMU: "I was told there'd be no math..." :p:D
