RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Thanks for the explanation.
Now I need the ECAC to tell me what the purpose of that rule is.

The purpose of the rule as I understand it is that if a player is not going to dress in one of the games, they shouldn't miss time from school / class, and yes, there are no restrictions on who travels when the school is on break. I didn't think they were allowed to have more than 23 travel with the team, but that leaves me unable to explain why you had a non-suspended player in the stands and only 11 forwards. Are you sure he wasn't there on his own? I know SLU only travels with 23 to road ECAC games. I am sure there is also some cost containment element to the rule as well.

Appert would not have been able to fill out the lineup card, although I am sure he decided on the lineup ahead of time. It is a surprising decision to only dress 17 skaters. I am sure the RPI have their reasons and my guess is they didn't like the suspensions and wanted all 4 suspended guys to get at least one game this weekend, but I am not sure I would have done the same thing. One or two injuries or GM's and it could be pretty ugly.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

There is no NCAA rule for this. The only travel restriction through the NCAA is in terms of the village in that you can't arrive until 48 hours before your game, and you must leave within 24 hours of the end of the game. Sometimes waivers are granted, such as a couple of the nWCHA teams that went to Alaska for two straight weekends this year when classes weren't in session. This is a D-I bylaw and doesn't apply to just hockey. Although, I'm a little surprised, with the advent of technology, that online courses aren't considered. Granted, the rule was written when this wasn't a possibility.

The only reasoning I can think of is for "fairness" in terms of roster sizes, as it could be justified that you were playing an entirely different team if unlimited substitutions between games were allowed.

Thanks.

Just a thought.
Could they have not suited up Soffer and gone with 18 skaters and one goaltender? I know you're taking the risk on Diebold getting hurt, but it could have been worth the risk.

NCAA ice hockey rules stipulate you must dress two goaltenders, or you forfeit.

A nailbiter and we had to come from behind to win in the third period-but the bus ride home from Canton should be a bit happier now. No time to celebrate-yale/Brown coming to Troy and we need to come out strong for both games.

When all is said and done, a split on the NC trip is better than our standard result.

Especially how we were 0-8 when trailing entering the 3rd period. Really good road win for the guys. Gotta cut down on those penalties tho.;)

And now for something completely different-more drivel. it appears that for the first time in many years-we have played at least one game against each of the top 6 teams ranked in the Pairwise. That being the case-someone please tell me why our Strength of Scheduole is listed as being so low?(like 32nd). Especially in view of the fact that we played Union 3 times, BC, Minnesota, Ferris, Quinnipiac and Cornell.

ECAC still gets no respect.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Union thread's like a train wreck. I don't want to stare but can't look away. Now they're talking about building a secret treehouse, no boys allowed.

Please God, let the hilarity continue.

They want to build their own message board, yet no one starts a score thread for either weekend game?

We played Sacred Heart and Mercyhurst twice.
