He was a good player?? Inducted into the PC hall of fame and was a final 3 for Hobey and 2 time All-American. All Hockey East rookie team. He was a great player at PC. Had stints in NHL, 2nd rd pick by NY Rangers and several years in AHL/ECHL. Ended up as a player coach and the rest is history. The ultimate team guy who was greatly respected by his teammates and opponents.
You are 100% full of crap about his academics. Worked very hard in high school, where he had 100 points his sr year in 20 games and graduated from PC with a business degree.
I do. He was a very good player. He logged a lot of minutes on the ice. He scored a lot of points and played the game using his size and strength well. Having said that, I remember hearing back then that he was Prop 48 and only scored something like 680 combined on his SAT's out of prep school. That is hard to do. I'd almost think that just answering C to every question would get a higher score than that.
It's unfortunate that this melee has overshadowed a great win for RPI and a great season for Union. For my thoughts, Bodie deserved more discipline, Bennett is lucky to have a job still, the RPI guys leaving the bench is understandable but not retreating to the bench once the fracas started is not, whoever that was on the RPI bench who pushed Bennett (AV guy?) should be kicked off the team.
RPI and Union are still both great programs and classy teams. This will blow over.

Haggerty does deserve some discipline, because he was the only RPI player to make the attempt to start the fighting, i.e. unprovoked by Union. Whether it warrants a suspension I'm not going to call.
EDIT: Another thought on Haggerty is that they may have awarded a game misconduct, and in case I think that may be his third.
Dolan completely deserves to sit a game. He threw down gloves and helmet and clearly tried to fight at the end of the game. Should have been called at the time it occurred and wasn't, so the league picked it up after the fact.
Haggerty I'm not quite so sure about but it is what it is. If nothing else he's one of the most penalized players on the team and we all know reputation starts to play into it. If they thought it was borderline they may have erred on the stiffer punishment side based on past actions.
Everyone lives to play another day and with any luck will take some sort of lesson away from it.

John-I am a long time NY Ranger fan and I can quote without looking it up his total production in the NHL for them. I would not call his numbers with NY very productive. Could add more about an altercation in Troy after a PC 2-1 win in OT at the Xmas Tourney December 1988 but it has no bearing here at all. The fact remains-his behavior at the end of the game was simply intolerable and should not be something anyone should expect from an NCAA coach.
