RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

:)

Seriously, is the ECAC responsible for refs in nonconference games?

Well, I don't see Tony Sericolo listed one of our linesman this weekend, so the NHL is out ... Yes, I think its safe to assume (That's right, I'm asking you to take the leap Ralph:D) that the league scheduled the officials for a non-league game between two league opponents being played in the building that houses the league offices. :p

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Anybody interested in seeing some optimism on this board?

RPI has 11 league games left on the schedule this season.

Three of those are against Dartmouth, Cornell, and Colgate. They've played all three of those this season and are 2-0-1 in those games.

The other eight are against Yale, Brown, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence. They haven't played any of those this season, but last year, they went 7-0-1 against that group (not counting playoff games, which, as we all understand, are a completely different animal from regular season games).

I'm going to predict that, with the possible exception of this Saturday's non-league game against Union, RPI's going to go undefeated the rest of the way.

After all, with only one exception, this is the same aggregation of talent that was considered a favorite to finish first in the ECAC this year. Wouldn't this be a great time for them to start playing up to expectations?
Well, your possible exception is a glaring one... its going to take every fiber of my being to convince myself it'll be worthwhile to drag myself into the god forsaken TUC to witness Union vs. RPI Version 3.0 -- the malware I had installed in my head isn't nearly done cleaning up the scarring incurred with V 1.0 & 2.0.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

I gotta get this off my chest....it's a rant and I'll apologize in advance, then shutup.

I've been avoiding posting here following the P & Q weekend. After listening to Seth tell me they played well at Princeton and hearing everyone else talk about Diebold being a bum and time to start Stoffer...etc. The one glaring effing ommission from all that endless weekend post mortem BS is that a certain RPI stud forward took a mindless, selfish, brain dead crosschecking penalty in the offensive zone just seconds after RPI had scored a hard fought opening goal vs. Princeton. The Tigers proceed to tie it on the PP moments later and we go on to lose a tight game. NOT A WORD from our great coach about how that hurt the squad even though it defied everything playing the "Engineer way" was supposed to be about. If OGC had a pair, he would've at the very least gotten in the kid's grill and delivered an Addesa inspired message of one and two syllable words that he could fully comprehend. God forbid he might've even held the kid out a shift or two. Sacrilege, I know. Expectations only apply to the rest of the team apparently.

Sadly, I'm back in the land of having zero expectations for this team and cannot tell you how much that sucks. OK - rant complete. Bash away

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Clear and concise. Also, probably right on the money. This team gets less than 8 points the remainder of this season and there has to be a lot of questions posed. We just have too many talented boys on this team for that kind of result.

Funny thing is, it'll be a re-hash of what I've already asked, but people were so in denial of it that they decided to shout me down. I will have my vindication.

Finally, someone else who speaks the truth.

Sorry, Saturday's game is outside the scope of my prediction. ;)

I can look at 9-0-2 against those seven other schools and find a reason to feel optimistic. But as much as I'd like to, I can't find a reason to feel optimistic about a game against Union right now. :(

Perhaps OGC does his discipline in the locker room. Who are we to say that the aforementioned forward was not held accountable? Also do you really think it doesn't bother him knowing it may have been his mistake that cost them the game? I know for myself, when playing any sport, if i did something in a game that had an effect on the out come it ate me up inside.

Obviously it is clear there is something going on behind the scenes that we spectacular fans do not know. Whether it is between players or the players and coaches who cares. Let's just hope they get it straighten out and start playing hockey the way we think they are capable.

WS - Spot on. You are the best. FWIW, the incident you mention is far from the first time this year. Anyone else remember the 18:24 mark of the 3rd against Cornell when we were up 3-1, and at 18:25 not only did they score to make it 3-2 but someone took and mindlessly stupid penalty and Cornell scored on the resulting power play to tie it at 3-3 ? Yeah, I havent forgot that one either.

Just to clarify, I don't think anyone here called Diebold a bum. I know I didn't. We also don't know what Appert says behind closed doors. We only know that he doesn't bash his players in public.

And who picked up this "mindlessly stupid penalty"? Yup, the same player who had the penalty in the Princeton game and the person who is earning votes for the Hobey.

Haggerty is not the Bank of America. He isn't too important to sit. Let him sit out the Dartmouth game.

This has long been a flaw in his game - the ill-timed foolish penalty. Bear in mind he also took the penalty that gave Cornell a 6-on-4 just after they came within one by blowing up Joakim Ryan well after he shot the puck.

Yea 7 minors and a 10 minute misconduct in 22 games and he should sit. Brilliant. And for the other half dozen players with more penalties than him of which several have been of the boneheaded???

I know you can't be overly shocked that the self-proclaimed greatest hockey mind of our time came up with such an awe-inspiring plan. Of course the nation's second highest goal scorer isn't too important to sit.

Honestly, we might be better served if we just sat everyone and let him play by himself.
