RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

FWIW, Holy Angels forward Joseph LaBate recently committed to UW for '11. Other schools in the mix were UNO, Maine, RPI, Bemidji St. and Mankato.

He would have been a nice pickup, I wonder if SA was trying to get him to Troy next season or for 2012.

6'4"? We could have used that.

Edit: It's hard to believe that someone who is rated #60 in the NHL midyear ranking would consider us and wait a year. That could mean that we still have scholarship money available.

JL led the CHL in points by 16 http://cjhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/scoringleaders.html?leagueid=349&seasonid=5782. He also led in goals by 22 and in PPGs by 3. He finished second in SHGs, third in assists, fifth in SHAs, and tied for 7th in GWGs. He played in all 62 of Cornwall's games -- no trips to Florida. :D

JL also led the CHL in 3-star points http://cjhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/starleaders.html?leagueid=349&seasonid=5782&sortby=starpts. He had both the most 1st and 2nd star selections and was chosen one of the stars in exactly half of Cornwall's games.

Cornwall's next game has now been scheduled for 3/11.

Next year was my thought as well. I think your right about the scholarship money, which means we could def see another big name recruit added to next seasons recruit class. I wonder if LaBate was that second player SA met with when he went out to MN earlier this year, Schroeder being the other.

I wonder how many more big-name recruits there are out there. You're probably correct that SA met with LaBate. If so, I'll take one of two every time, although big forwards who can score is one of the things we desperately need.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

On Sunday, the Stouffville Spirit defeated the Newmarket Hurricanes 3-0 to lead their best-of-7 playoff series 2-0. Matt Neal had two assists. He was named #3 star. http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1547720

Neal's line is now 8-6-10-16-8.
Total 58-46-70-116-28.
Heres the highlights from game 2, Neals assists are shown at 2:00 and 2:58 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-HyfYOHwco

A couple recent articles mentioned that two of Neals teammates are getting some ncaa attention, forwards Drake Caggiula a '94 and Tyler VonEngelbrechten a '90. I wonder if SA has interest in either of these guys.

Will VonEngelbrechten (hassenfeffermeister) fit on the back of the jersey?

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Yeah, 'cause getting a FREE world class education at RPI is such a drag.

I would never argue that a free education at RPI is anything but a huge gift. Mine certainly wasn't free, it was world class. But having been there done that, 4 years of outside the classroom life in Troy IS a drag compared to 4 years in Madison. Life isn't just about going to class, some 17 year olds have that figured out, I didn't at 17.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

The shameless optimist that I am, I was thinking that our early exit from the playoffs will allow our coaches to hit the recruiting trail...:p

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

http://host.madison.com/sports/college/hockey/article_4856ab0c-4875-11e0-a10e-001cc4c03286.html

I'm sorry to say it, but after spending 4 years in Troy, and 6 years in Madison, RPI really shouldn't be expecting anyone who visits UW to come to RPI if the Badgers offer them a spot.

I wonder if LaBate had even visited RPI before signing with UW.

There are people who don't like going to humongous state schools. I wish that I could find the article about former women's hockey player Katie Temple, written after she transferred from UW to RPI, which compared the two schools and the way they treated players.
