RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

I don't think that this was posted here.
Ryan Haggerty, F- One of two New England natives on the roster (he and Paliotta are both from Connecticut), Haggerty is another unheralded, solid guy who can play a variety of roles, but doesn't bring any kind of real high-end upside to the mix. Smart, hard-working, gritty yet honest, his experience and strong performance in the Five Nations tourney in February is going to make him a useful if unspectacular part of a potential winning formula in April. He understands the system and plays it to a tee. Committed to RPI.
Sounds like a carbon copy of Bryan Brutlag. :) He's gonna be a great addition to the team next season.

Found the game highlights for this one, Zalewski's OT goal comes at 3:45.

Thanks for looking for that. DrD has been touting every recruit at forward who is over 6' tall for years, but I think that Zalewski will be the one to contribute the most to RPI since SA has been coach. I wonder how SA beat Clarkson out for him.

Edit: I should add that I liked the goal and the slow motion was a bonus. Also a few seconds earlier, Zalewski was shown attempting (unsuccessfully) to dig out the puck in front of his own goal. It's good to see him also playing back.

Perhaps a little payback for losing Zarbo? :D

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Got to see Delbarton win today in OT 3-2. Our recruit Drew Melanson played well and got an assist on the winning goal in OT. Had the experience of sitting among a number of NHL scouts. They were looking at various members of the Delbarton team. McMullen (going to BC next year) is a star. Another player going to Yale (name starts with a B) is also a hot property. But we are in good company signing a member from this team. They were by far the better team and only a special performance by the St Augustine goalie kept this one close.
A bit of an oldie here but highlights from the NJ high school state championship game were just posted on youtube 3 days ago. Melanson's assist on the game winning OT goal is at 1:54 (#27 white).

I just get tired of our being pushed around coming down the homestretch of the ECAC season when the bigger teams just manhandle us. This past year was a perfect example. We seem to be able to skate with any team as long as they are not also very big. As the last few seasons have worn on, we seemed to wear down against the bigger squads. I love smaller players who can score and have the skills-but yes, give me at least one big forward on each line.;)

Thanks Red-I do think Melanson will turn out to be a good one for us but he is definitely a few years away. This Delbarton team is just loaded.

On Friday, the Wellington Dukes lost to the Oakville Blades 2-1. Wellington leads the best-of-7 playoff series 2-1. Curtis Leonard had an assist. Mark McGowan had a roughing penalty. http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1564488

Leonard's line is now 18-2-3-5-14.
Total 66-4-23-27-36.
McGowan's line is now 21-8-7-15-28.
Total 66-33-37-70-78.
Had the opportunity to take in this game last night in Wellington. The brand new "DukeDome" is a beautiful facility, puts quite a few college facilities to shame. Entertaining game with lots of back and forth action. I think there was almost 80 shots on goal between the two teams. Oakville almost blew the game in the final minutes with a too many men on the ice penalty, giving Wellington a two man advantage for the end of the game. I liked what I saw from Leonard, surprisingly quick for a kid that size. Played on the top D pairing and saw lots of lengthy shifts. He's definately more of a defensive dman with nice crisp passes and good puck control. Made a great play with about 3 minutes left in the game stopping a 2 on 1 breakaway. I think he's gonna see quite a bit of icetime next season. McGowan played LW and struck me as more of a checking line type player. Didnt really do anything that stood out to me during the game. Seems to like going hard to the net looking for the "dirty" goals and isnt afraid to get physical. Flattened a guy against the boards at the beginning of the game which ultimately led to his roughing penalty. Also took a couple faceoffs as well.

I took some photos of both recruits which you can see here if interested, I also took some video footage but probably wont have that up for a couple days.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

On Friday, the Portage Terriers defeated the Selkirk Steelers 3-1 to lead their best-of-seven playoff series 3-1. Jason Kasdorf saved 22 of 22 shots. Somehow his backup, who didn't play, was named #1 star. http://mjhl.esportsdesk.com/leagues/hockey_boxscores.cfm?clientID=4926&leagueID=17735&gameID=940599

Kasdorf's line is now 11-8-3-0-1.97-.925.
Total 45-31-13-0-2.39-.915.

Obviously you meant 3-0 since he saved all 22 shots.
