RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Why wouldn't he? Higgs, Rogic, Dolan, Koudys and Leboeuf all had strong contributions this year...I guess I don't understand why he would suddenly not give JL, Neal and the others the same opportunities?

So far in his tenure at RPI, coach SA has only slowly integrated freshmen into his offense. This has been expecially true with his forwards. This year he was forced to play his new defensemen and it worked out rather well. Personally I think that next year his philosophy will be different as he has so much potential offense coming in that he can't help but play these kids and give them lots of ice time.

Pirri and D'Amigo were given a lot of ice time from the start, as was Higgs this season.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

Doc,

I respectfully disagree, especially with regard to forwards. Pirri, D'Amigo, and O'Grady played all games for which they were available, always in the top 9 forwards. The year before, Cullen, AAG, and Rabbani (none of whom are all-around players) played basically every game, again on the top 3 lines. Before that, Helfrich and Polacek were our two leading scorers and Brutlag was a top 4 defenseman. Even Scott Halpern got very substantial playing time. I simply do not see this reluctance to which you are referring being borne out in the raw hard numbers.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

As an aside... Chase Polacek's senior season point total: 64 points (26 goals and 38 assists). Zach Schroeder's senior season point total: 64 points (27 goals and 37 assists). Also, Schroeder did this on a team that was slightly less potent offensively than Polacek.

Thanks for posting that. I had looked up Polacek's stats about two weeks ago but forgot about them when Schroeder's season ended.

Article about Cornwall's game on Sunday, mainly about how they beat Kanata's goalie who saved 61 of 62 shots the previous game http://www.standard-freeholder.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3024374. At least JL didn't appear to be involved. BTW, Borkowski is a Colgate recruit.

The Cornwall police are investigating http://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...10314/20110314/?hub=OttawaHome#commentSection. There is also a video link on the page which plays after an ad.

KN-I have seen that change in SA also-he has indeed played his top freshmen forwards more than I thought he would after his first couple of years in Troy. This year, not quite so much. He does like to rely on senior leadership up front though and i hope he continues to use the freshmen more especially on specialty teams. On defense he was forced to play his freshmen-and I kind of wished he played them even more Next year's freshman class reminds me a lot of what we had a year ago-lots of offensive potential. I really hope he spreads the ice time around-I felt the seniors this year were wearing down a little as the end of the ECAC league schedule came along.

We do seem to have a lot of potential replacements for scoring coming next year. This kind of depth could make for some very interesting line combinations.

Theres also the possibility of more being added as well. It seems SA still has some scholarship money to dish out with the recent attempt to land LaBate. Just a guess, I think we'll see 1-2 more forwards and another blueliner, preferably a smaller offensive minded dman to compliment Bailen.

I agree. None of our three current recruits on defense (Curadi, Leonard, and Bradley) appear to be offensive minded, so it would make a lot of sense.

Also looking at the size of LaBate (6'4"), it seems SA is trying to add a bit more size up front as well. Which IMO we really need.

We need forwards with size who can contribute offensively. We have some taller forwards (e.g. Smith, Burgdoerfer), but they appear to be role players. McGowan seems similiar. Zalewski could fill that role, but he is for 2012. LaBate would have been great, but we lost him. I wonder how close we were.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. IV

On Tuesday, the Cornwall Colts defeated the Kanata Stallions 4-3 to lead their best-of-7 playoff series 3-1. Jacob Laliberté scored the OT GWG and added an assist. He was named #1 star. :) http://pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=1550357

Laliberté's line is now 4-4-5-9-0.
Total 66-67-75-142-26.

It looks like everyone was on their best behavior.

Edit: Kanata had extra-attacker goals at 19:34 and 19:59 to force OT.
