RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

I think I now realize who you might be referring to: Evan McEneny ('94 defenseman), who was listed on Heisenberg's 2010 page as playing for "Hamilton Midget" as a 2012 recruit. McEneny signed with Kitchener (OHL) in the offseason.

That's the kid I was thinking of, thanks KN. (I deleted my post as I second-guessed myself)

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

I dont see why JL cant step in next year and contribute right away like Andrew Calof has been doing down in Princeton this year, whos currently leading his team in scoring with 1.33pts per game. Add to the fact that he'll be 21 by the time next season starts, older then some of the current freshmen and sophomores on the team right now. I can see JL being one of RPI's top point producers next year, there might be a small adjustment period coming up from the CjHL level to college but I dont see that being to big a problem.

I agree completely-although much will depend on how coach SA decides to utilize JL. If he gets significant powr play time or not, if he gets enough minutes on one of the top lines, etc. This kid has shown he can score-I don't think the step up to the NCAA will alter that.

Incidentally, to the best of my recollection, McEneny visited the same day as John Hayden who, as noted here, just signed with Yale for 2012. I believe the (correct) speculation on here is that these must have been informal visits on the players' own dime per NCAA rules. McEneny's going (semi-)pro indicates that he was probably never really interested in us at all. I tend to believe (and this is just speculation) that we were probably very interested in Hayden and simply lost out to a school that is far superior academically and (sadly) athletically (at the present point in time).

I don't think I have been properly appreciating the full extent of JL's dominance of JrA hockey. I had thought that his stats weren't much better than previous guys we've had (Oren Eizenman and Jon Ornelas come to mind) who took some time to adjust to NCAA hockey. However, looking back, his stats are far, far better than either of those guys (who played in very similar leagues).

Im not 100% sure but I think players cant make an official visit to a school until they are a senior in high school, so Haydens visit with Brunswick teammate Kevin Duane last season wasnt an official one. USHR says Hayden picked Yale because he wanted to remain close to home, his hometown of Greenwich is less then an hour away from New Haven.

As for McEneny, I believe he was visiting with Pat Koudys that night. Both were teammates for a little while last year in Burlington.

Fear not Doc, I don't think Seth has any intentions of making a grinder out of him :D (ONLY kidding) Seriously, I think he'll be given every opportunity to earn significant offensive responsibilities. The rest will be up to JL and his work ethic -- including his commitment to off-season conditioning.

Not to mention "health" around the holiday season.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

An article that I think was missed from three weeks ago about Ryan Haggerty http://www.thestamfordtimes.com/story/494418. There are some interesting points about the recruiting process and SA's role in it.

Thanks Ralph. Great article. This only reinforces what I think most of us believe and that is that SA is one of the best recruiters if not the best recruiter in the nation. He is a road warrior and an incredible salesman. We should enjoy the pipeline of players that he is putting in Troy.

Hokydad is lurking in the recruit thread. FYI. Just saw his name at the bottom. Fair warning HD, our great colleague Red Cloud will have you banned again.

He didnt in the first place. Is that like getting killed twice?

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Said one of the reasons picked there was NHL placement, mentioned 2. many great reasons to pick RPI, going to NHL would be way down the list. Go there, graduate and see what happens. No more Louis Leblancs

I thought you were leaving?

Simply pointed out that it was a disaster for Harvard to have kids thinking about NHL before they ever showed up, I would assume RPI would have liked to have seen the kids who left this year stay. It is a valid siscussion point.

This is not a private blog but a public forum. If you want one, go start one

Someone give me the keys, I'll lock up after this mess is cleaned.

In any case, I certainly hope that JL will fit in just as well as Polacek did his freshman year.

Trolling is when you set out to evoke a negative reaction from multiple people. This I have not done. What you have done instead is to try to lob a hand grenade into a discussion about something else that is bound to get people agitated. Well guess what. I'm agitated, troll.

This is a forum with rules - rules that you continually break. You already know everyone who posts in this thread hates you - or maybe it's just the voices in your head that tell you you're so freaking beloved. Why would you come back if not to cause trouble? And the content of your first return post just underscores that you're trying to cause trouble.

You've already had your chance to be a productive and/or interesting part of our discussion here. You blew it. Now you can deal with the consequences of that - no one takes you seriously or wants to see your name pop up in their thread. You are the most hated person on this forum and you don't seem to care.

I think the general patrons of HFH are also now starting to realize this. Granted it helps when you are undefeated at home and have a winning record in general, but it's a long term change, so people are starting to see the effects, and based upon the attendance numbers thus far, they like it.

False. Simply said it was interesting to see NHL placement as a reason to attend. very similar to the year long Harvard thread on same subject with Leblanc. The list shows RPI at the very bottom in that catagory.

You dont own RPI threads. I have friends there now and have followed program for 25+ years.

I do agree that posts should be kept on subject and it is counter productive to talk about particular kids abilities etc, like in the past and agree that serves no purpose.

talking about if NHL placement should be a factor in going to RPI or other ECAC schoools should be a top consideration, I would guess that is fair game. I assume that is the new college hockey world we all live in

FYI, had about 5 green feedbacks today and yesterday, more than one said to ignore you, calling you a know it all blowhard. You do have anger issues and are a know it all but I could care less. You dont dictate what I do and visa versa

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

What is that awful stench here?
