Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

It wouldn't surprise me if he would be a 2012 recruit for the big HE schools and a 2011 recruit for schools like us.
USHR must have just updated the Berkshire team page today because the roster is now up. Bourbonnais is listed as a junior... which if correct would make him a possible 2012 recruit.

6 Riley Bourbonnais F Jr 6-0 185 0/0/00 Rochester, NY

He was announced at the game this evening as a junior. Made the game-winning assist in OT.

Also, as a heads up, Hokyfool has been let out of his cage. I knew it was too good to be true.

...he also scored a goal and had one waved off due to GOALTENDER INTERFERENCE

I caught the game at AA tonight as well (thanks to Ralph for reminding me). Seth was of course at the game, along with Col. Knowlton (watching his son).

Riley is as advertised, with the possible exception of his heighth (I'm not so sure he's 6'0). Otherwise, he has a pretty stocky build and has plenty of burst in his skating and isn't afraid to shoot the puck. Berkshire has a few kids that can play...it wouldn't bother me if Seth talked to a few of them.:p (Mingoia is U bound)

Hats off to Coach Cavosie and AA for an excellent effort tonight. Even though they were outmatched a bit sizewise, they didn't let up and at one point had a two goal lead. AA had several excellent chances to score late in the 3rd and early in OT. It would be a very good thing if AA could return to the excellence they achieved in the 80s and 90s.

troyboy was there and reported to me that he reminded him a little of Higgs.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

On Wednesday, the Cornwall Colts defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-2. Jacob Laliberté had a goal and three assists. He was named #2 star. http://pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=1318732

Laliberté's line is now 30-25-30-55-10.

Looks like he's getting hot again. Now 3rd in points and 1st in goals (by 3) with far fewer of his points coming on the powerplay than the top two scorers (16 for JL v. 22 for #1 and 30 for #2). Running away with the three-star points race (his goalie Karvouniaris is in second). Ideally this would indicate that he isn't ever disappearing from games. While we have some very nice young players currently (thinking Higgs, Rogic, O'Grady), clearly they are not currently to the point where they can be counted on to contribute SOMETHING in every game (ala Polacek, Brutlag [finally] who will be leaving after this year). I'd hope this means there is a great chance that JL can step right into Polacek's shoes and keep us from missing a beat on the top line, and the currently-inconsistent (but talented) guys can operate without as much pressure on them.

Perhaps the most encouraging thing is that the success of his teams has dramatically improved from year to year.

It sounds like Wicked Slappaahs, Red Cloud, turk181, and troyboy all watched the Berkshire-AA game. Anyone else? That's a pretty large showing.

That would put the pressure on JL instead of the upperclassmen. Although it would be nice to see JL step right into Polacek's shoes, and eventually he should do that, I am not counting on it to start next season. I would be quite satisfied if he could duplicate Polacek's freshman year.

You raised an interesting, and probably valid, point, that JL getting a comparatively large percentage of his points at even strength is a plus.

I dont see why JL cant step in next year and contribute right away like Andrew Calof has been doing down in Princeton this year, whos currently leading his team in scoring with 1.33pts per game. Add to the fact that he'll be 21 by the time next season starts, older then some of the current freshmen and sophomores on the team right now. I can see JL being one of RPI's top point producers next year, there might be a small adjustment period coming up from the CjHL level to college but I dont see that being to big a problem.

I certainly hope that he will be, but he may need time.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

when I was talking to Riley Sat. night he's a little taller than me, I'm 5'11", so I'ld guess 6' is about right. He also just turned 17 in August so lots of time to grow. Listed at 187lbs., he's all of that. My comparrison would be O'Grady.

I'm happy to have underestimated his heighth.:p I will say that there were 4-5 kids on Berkshire who were taller than he was.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Folks: I seem to recall a young blueliner who visited HFH last season...wanna say he was with Hamilton Jr. Red Wings? Anyone recall who it was? Sorry this was a random recollection this a.m.:p I noticed that Conor McLaughlin (D) is tearing it up for Hamilton, but I have no idea what his status is. I don't see him on Heisenberg.

I'm fairly certain that none of the names of current Jr. Red Wings d-men have been mentioned on USCHO. Nothing cryptic about this message - but if there was info about someone it wasn't disseminated here.

Perhaps the recruit is now playing for a different team? I don't recall any such visitor last year.

I think I now realize who you might be referring to: Evan McEneny ('94 defenseman), who was listed on Heisenberg's 2010 page as playing for "Hamilton Midget" as a 2012 recruit. McEneny signed with Kitchener (OHL) in the offseason.
