Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

I've gathered two pucks from RPI games. One was from the game I went to Lynah in February where the puck clanged off the cross-bar during warm-ups, hit the banner directly above my seat and nearly decapitated FlagDUDE on the way down. The other was from when I went out to the Denver Cup with my friends a couple years ago. I caught a puck in a similar manner (off the cross-bar during warm-ups) but lost it :(. However, we (my friends and I) played "sumo hockey" during the first intermission of the championship game and I nabbed a souvenir puck from one of the kind ladies helping us get into the sumo suits.

Ralph, I know you're old, but 20 years can't be considered recent, considering that I remember the crowd booing a guy near me who caught the puck and wouldn't hand it to the roughly 8 or 9 year old me.

Give it to a **** kid. They'll be psyched about it for a week. You'll forget about it before the game's over.

Considering Ralph's definition of "new" is relative to when he was in college, well... Oh who cares, just give it to a kid. Even when the penalty box attendant gave me one of the spare pucks after a game, I STILL gave it to a kid.

Relative to when I left. :p

I do agree that you should give it to the kid, there just wasn't the opportunity back when I was at RPI.

I type too slowly. That's exactly what I meant. :D

Now that I've learned how to get pucks (and subsequently give them to a kid, of course), Lesson 2: How to get out of the way...:o

Just booked my room for the Festivus Faceoff in Lake Placid...do we know if the schools are selling tickets at their box offices or we need to call the Olympic Center? Also any talks people gathering at a certain bar before or after the games?

HAHHA! That 'guttural' sound you mention is a natural offshoot from being named "Luke" ...it has followed him everywhere and sounds like a boo combined with a cheer but is, in essence, his name hollered in a deep low long yell...I'm used to it. He didn't become tough just because of the Hubster tho...folks can rib me a plenty and I'll keep doing what I do...btw... he probably would have booed me too so you're welcomed to give me the business whenever you want...:)

At this point, I'm ready to bring a puck of my own and toss on the floor to see Babo in action, tacking some little bastard and hurling the rubber to the rafters !! :) Wish I knew it was you (and who the other posters are)...would said hi and been nice to catch up before the games (inside the arena or out !).

Giving the pucks to kids must be a relatively new development. Of course, years ago, the north side of the field house was entirely populated by students and there weren't any kids around on that side as far as I can recall. People just kept them. The only puck that i ever got was given to me by a member of the pep band. Several went on the stage every game (especially when Gerry Beauclair was on the team).

I remember Gerry Beauclair - I was only about 10 yrs old but used to go to all of the games with my father, and remember that a lot of people specifically called him out at times. :)

I'm staying in the hotel directly across from the rink (Golden Arrow, I think?). Anyone who wants to join me there for pre/post game cocktails YAY! If it gets too expensive, folks are welcome to BYOB to my room and we can maybe have a guest appearance by a player or two ;) (they'd drink Gator and protein, of course). If they have fire pits outside then it's really on...

My tix were in Section 16 so I imagine that's where I'll be when the games are more crowded. Once the weather is really cold I'll have the raccoon coat on and there is no way you miss it...

Jenny and I both really believe that in the cold weather there is nothing as great as dressing up warmly in fur and heading out to a hockey game. Besides, it is often so cold at Baker rink down here at Princeton that only fur will suffice. Hope we get to one of the games that you attend and meet up soon.

Time to stuff the ballot boxes in a meaningless poll http://www.bcinterruption.com/2011/...ckey-east-expansion-notre-dame-boston-college?

RPI has a tiny arena, but QU's is a plus?

That guy has been bashing RPI as a potential 12th team for weeks, so it's no surprise he just throws out a bunch of random reasons it should be QU and not RPI. For example, RPI is a small school, but enrollment is within 500 of QU. QU has invested in its athletic programs, but the $100 million or more RPI has spent to build ECAV and upgrade the Field House don't matter because we're D3. When push comes to shove he can't fathom the idea that a school can care about D1 hockey when the rest of its sports are D3, and will therefore make up any reason he can think of to explain why we're a bad fit.

We WILL be at Princeton (or at least I will...the Hubster has to go away for 2 months starting mid October). We'll find each other in the 'Fur Coat' Section (make sure both you and Jenny have your best pelts on...)
