RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Per USHR:

Drew Melanson, ‘95 (New Jersey Freeze) 5’10”, 150 lbs., F—RPI recruit can really fly. His speed is incredibly difficult to defend against. Really puts defenders on their heels. We watched him play a very good Cape Cod Whalers team and he was a standout. If he adds a little more finish to his game he could turn into a real steal for the Engineers. Will be a junior at Delbarton.

Much, much appreciated bothman!!!

Yes, thanks bothman.

Here is Melanson's Chowder Cup page http://www.proamhockey.com/stats/player.php?id=26320. He also went 3-7-7-14-0  in the Junior Chowder Cup. I don't think that we noticed that at the time.

He wasa top scorer and both the Junior Chowder Cup and the JCC Playoofs

We have seen Melanson a couple times-he is indeed about as fast as anyone i have seen at this level. He needs to fill out his frame with a little more muscle but he should have a really nice future with us in Troy. Normally i am not crazy about forwards unless they have much more size than this, but he has a certain something that makes it so you notice him on almost every shift.

He looks to have quite a bit of talent, I wonder if he'll spend the next two seasons at Delbarton or if we'll see him jump to Omaha in the USHL next season and arrive at RPI for 2013.

Also in other Omaha news, Mark Miller was selected Co-Captain for the Lancers this season.

Besides for being Miiller smaller, there seem to be similarities between Miller and Justin Smith. THey both apparently have leadership abilities and neither did much scoring in juniors.

I suspect that Melanson's decision depends upon whether he will come in 2013 or 2014. If he is penciled in for 2013, he'll probably go there next year, if 2014, then he will probably wait a year. That's just a guess.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

RB-You're kidding right? That looks a lot like Zalewski. Melanson is about 55 pounds lighter.:)

I usually don't recognize myself in the mirror. :D

I figured it was Melanson because he was most recently discussed. Had I checked the Vernon roster it would have been obvious.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Speaking of Zalewski, that was a nice video interview of him posted on the other thread yesterday. I found it interesting that his coach in Vernon wouldnt let him wear #73, I wonder if Appert will let him wear it. Im probably wrong but I believe Brad Tapper's #52 was the highest number worn by an RPI player.

High numbered jerseys?! Last I checked, we aren't Clarkson. (although 39 by Haggerty seems to be a bit of an exception)

You are correct. Next highest is 44 by Farynuk.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Looks like the ECAC blogger picked us to get swept and to only score one goal this weekend. Seems like our Freshman class is getting very little respect from around the league.

And what are the future RPI'ers going to do about it? ;) I'm not sure any of the deferrals would have made all that much of a difference. Zalewski will definitely be a great fit-in for when Rabbani graduates.

Won't he ever, although i suspect that we have allocated more money to the Big Diesel. (If I keep callinng him that, I might remember.)

Correct-Brad's number was his brother's 25 backwards. I don't think we will see high numbers here as long as SA is in charge (which I hope is a very long time).

Sorry folks - posted that one on the wrong thread!
