Just me or is the USHL pumping out way more NCAA'ers and better players than it used to?

It matters how far back "used to" refers to. In the case of RPI, SA apparently believes that it offers better competition than other leagues (not counting the CHL).

Heres video highlights of the Vipers huge comeback win over Prince George trailing 4-1 with under three minutes to play.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXYyR-rhPzA

Mike assisted on the 3rd goal and scored the 4th. I cant wait for the Zalewski/Bourbonnais one two punch coming in next season and add that on top of the current freshmen class we have now....... wow!

Thanks for the links. I agree completely about Z and B.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Riley Bourbonnais listed as a USHL early season standout by Chris Peters on his blog "The United States of Hockey"

http://unitedstatesofhockey.com/201...te-chl-season-underway-ushl-kicks-off-friday/

Riley Bourbonnais went undrafted in his first year of eligibility while skating for the Berkshire School in Massachusetts. Now, he’s hooked up with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. In a league where he’ll undoubtedly get more exposure, Bourbonnais may get a second chance.

As one of the fastest teams in the USHL this season, Cedar Rapids should do well offensively and Bourbonnais could be a big part of that. He scored five goals in six preseason games, including three in two games against Dubuque, one of the stronger opponents the Riders faced. As a second-year eligible, he will fly under the radar, but don’t sleep on him.

Ill also note that J. Modry was behind the RPI bench last night in place of Nolan Graham who im guessing is out on the recruiting trail. Its possible Graham was in Alberta this weekend scouting the AJHL showcase.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

USHR posted their USHL Fall Classic review and had a few things to say about RPI recruits Bourbonnais and Bradley.

We thought 5'11" Riley Bourbonnais, a '93 LW from the Berkshire School, did a fine job, and adapted quickly to the pace.

We liked RPI recruit Chris Bradley, a 6'1", 190 lb. '93 defenseman from Williamsville, NY. Solid. Nothing flashy.

They also had some good things to say about a few other NYers playing in the USHL this year that might be on RPI's radar. I dont have any knowledge that RPI is actually after these players, just using the fact that we've seen a steady increase with in-state recruits recently.

Kevin Morris, Dubuque
6'4", 193 lb. late '92 LW Kevin Morris, formerly at Salisbury and the son of Manchester Monarchs (AHL) head coach Mark Morris, looked good. More agile than we expected, and he showed a little bit of touch around the net. It's taken him a while to grow into his body, but he'll wind up helping a Div. I school.

Zach Aston-Reese, Lincoln
6', 185 lb. '94 forward Zach Aston-Reese, who recently decomitted from Brown, was very good. Look for him to get a lot of attention in the coming months. Reese is in his second year with Lincoln.

J.T. Stenglein, Youngstown
6'2" LW J.T. Stenglein, a '93, is uncommitted and really showed something, scoring an unassisted goal with 27 seconds left when he just ripped one under the crossbar vs. Cedar Rapids.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Thanks for the links.
It seems like a good portion of USHL clubs have their own youtube channel where they upload highlights of each home game, which is nice since its hard to go see USHL games in person being a mid-west based league. Im hopeful someday they will expand further east past Youngstown and maybe into NY/PA.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

USHR is reporting that RPI has an offer out to '95 Salisbury Prep forward Anthony DiFruscia.

DiFruscia, like Berisha, is from Ontario and is a high OHL draft pick, going in the second round to the Niagara Icedogs. The 5’10, 180 lb. junior played last season for the Welland Tigers and had a 50-52-102 – and over a hundred penalty minutes -- in only 59 games. He’s been offered by Penn State and RPI but is talking to a lot of schools. He doesn’t have as much flash and dash as Berisha. He’s more of an up-and-down-the-wing power forward. A good honest player with a high skill level, and a good student, he has Ivies inquiring.

Always appreciate the updates, RH. 2nd Round OHL pick despite looking at colleges?? - kid must be a real stud.

Sounds like we're getting heat from multiple fronts - academics and athletics - so we might not have a great shot at him. But always glad to be mixing it up with the big boys. It took us a while to land Bourbannais, so maybe the fact that he's still looking isn't a death knell.

Any idea who else was after Bourbannais?

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Heres a little more on DiFruscia:

http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/...h-ritchie-baptiste-difruscia-maletta-robinson

Anthony DiFruscia, LW, Welland Tigers
DiFruscia is a physical, hardnosed winger who possesses size, skates up and down his wing and plays an effective two-way game. He is strong on his skates and skates well considering his physical frame. He displays good quickness on his initial first few strides and gets up to full speed very effectively. DiFruscia plays a pretty honest game, providing an outlet for a pass up ice in his own zone while also coming back hard and looking after his defensive responsibilities. He has the potential to develop into an effective two way forward at the next level. He competed in the 2011 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament and scored three goals and one assist for four points in four games.

Anthony DiFruscia, LW – Welland Tigers
Another top-rated OHL draft prospect, DiFruscia also played for Team Navy Blue and scored the team’s second goal in a very similar fashion to Domi - off the rush, with a nice, accurate shot. A little bigger than Domi, DiFruscia unfortunately got banged up early in the second game and didn’t return to the ice.

I think the fact that he is playing Prep this season is a good sign that he plans on going the ncaa route. Sounds like he would be a great pickup, guess we just have to keep our fingers crossed that he finds his way to Troy.

Defintely a good sign.

I wonder if we have any potential recruits who are wating to see if we go to HE.

Good question. I guess its possible.

Also FWIW, Heisenberg has DiFruscio listed fairly high on his site, right below Alex Rauter, who was also reported on USHR as having interest from RPI.
