Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

The usual procedure is that the Visiting team is allotted a certain number of tickets which will probably go on sale tomorrow at the HFH box office. I would call them in the AM at 276-6262. They will probably only be selling them until Wednesday or Thursday, so if you want to go, you should contact them tomorrow if possible.
Thanks 4L. I did just that. Not that one would know it by browsing the RPI Hockey website, but the box office is indeed selling a limited no. of tickets for the series. Buy 'em now, pick 'em up at CCT box office.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Imagine, Mike blaming the officials for the loss. I guess the other 64 minutes didn't count. How many power playes did they get from those same officials?
Maybe Mike didn't have his team ready for such a big game. Maybe they took RPI lightly. Maybe they thought they could just throw their sticks on the ice and that would be enough.
I really don't care what Mike thinks. His team had plenty of chances to win this game, and they didn't. Too Bad
Perdictably sad Angry Mike staying true to form. I couldn't help but chuckle when reading (and wonder if Aspy did) in Ken Schott's report that the Cleary Cup never made it to Colgate for Union to claim, it was unavoidably stuck in Ithaca due to "inclimate weather". Translation: Hagwell was deep into his third Rob Roy hangin' with his pals in the Big Red suite and couldn't be bothered to deliver the hardware. You can bet your last nickel the cup would've made it there had Cornell been in Hamilton.

Inclement weather my ***. I was going 55 MPH down NY 13 on the way home. I don't do that in crappy weather, even with a TrailBlazer.

This is why your absence was missed. Glad your back. While Hagwell was drinking his RR he was on the cell phone telling Adam Wodon what to write. The hatchet job that Wodon did on Paul Kelly was awful and IMHO came right from the league office to cover Hagwell's backside.

I guess our pre-weekend giggle was prescient, no?

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Based on what you say, that would be the rule about shooting the puck after the whistle. Here's what the rule book says on that:

The rule book does not state the date of the last amendment to this rule, so I don't know if this was enforced during the game you had cited. If he shot at any of the three locations noted (obviously four, but I would think the players are smart enough not to shoot at their own goal), the minor was warranted. Anywhere else, and it should have been just a misconduct.

Dude-Thanks for the rule listing. I guess it probably was the same in 1992 as it is now. The puck was not directed at an official-just swiped away and down the ice. But it was the call that broke the back that day. But at least it was not JOHN Murphy.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Once again, with Fat Mike, players win, refs lose. And to think he was on a four-man power play all night, too. What a baby.

I watched the video on the ECAC site several times-not sure if that could have been called icing or not. We have lots of these types of calls and you never know what the linesmen will do so you play it out. It did not look like on the video though that the Cornell players were just standing around-it just appeared that no one picked up Patty who was wide open for the shot.

I did not see article but I hope that Ken was critical of the slight by Hagwell and Stewart of the Union program. Maybe this can bring Ken and I together on an issue? I doubt it though.

In that video it seems clear that it should've been icing. The linesmen missed the call. It happens. Leonard had the puck beside his own net and fired it off the glass and all the way down the ice. It didn't appear to hit anyone and the only two players of the Cornell side of the red line at the time were Illes and a defensman. The D-man got to the puck in the corner but RPI hustled and Tinordi and Higgs won the battle on the boards while Cullen waited all alone in the slot. Cornell fell asleep on defense, but I didn't see any of their guys stop playing. The RPI guys just beat them on the play.

398753456827 to 1. Fat Mike complains. Big surprise.

What are the chances of Scott Diebold getting Goaltender of the Week (or even Rookie of the Week)? I know he only played one game, but were there any more-standout performances than 49 saves?

Probably tempered by the fact that he only played Friday night. If he played Saturday and did even decently he'd be a shoe-in for it. I still think there's some chance. Girard from Harvard had a good weekend as well.

The only thing missing was the Cup. It was at Cornell with ECACH commissioner Steve Hagwell, who had planned to drive to Colgate. But poor weather conditions kept Hagwell in Ithaca.

Given that the league has a history of reprimanding media for being overly critical, I'm not surprised that Schott didn't have more to say about it.

What would the weather have had to do with the fact that the Cleary Cup wasn't awarded to Union on Saturday night?

I'm assuming that if Cornell had beaten RPI, they would have won the Cleary Cup. Since they were strong favorites to do so, it makes sense that the Cup would have been in Ithaca at the start of the evening's festivities.

And, in fact, Cornell would have won the game if they had held on to the 1-0 lead they enjoyed with three minutes to play. Even after RPI scored the tying goal, the possibility still existed that Cornell could have scored once more and won the game anyway.

According to Mapquest, it takes an hour and 40 minutes to travel from Ithaca to Hamilton.

Seems to me that, even if weather conditions had been perfect and the Cup had been in a car ready to start out for Hamilton the instant Cullen's winning goal went in, it would have been physically impossible for the Cup to reach Starr Rink until long after Union's team had left for home.

Thanks for the article JC. BTW - you made the thread proud hitting the goal 3 out of 4X during the intermssion.

With regard to Schottsie, I'm disappointed that he wasn't more critical of Hagwell. wait a second... the league reprimands the media...now that's disturbing.
