Ralph, I can't read the first page of the game thread. Your post is making the whole screen blue.

On the Capital Region College Hockey Report, SA states he only has 6 seniors, not 7. Yet I count 8 on the roster???? Malchuk I know is a 5th yr senior.....who has left?

Perhaps the miscount is Bergin-he was redshirted a year(but I only count 7 including Bergin)

I know we have had a difficult time scoring all season-as evidenced by our 1.74 goals per game. What I did not realize is that this figure is the lowest in RPI hockey history since 1937. Even the 1965-66 team which could not compete against anyone had a higher number for goals scored per game.

The pads also weren't half the size of the goal back then.

The roster from uscho has 8 seniors listed Bergin, Malchuk, Burgdoerfer, Smith, AAG, Cullen, Rabbani and Coupal. The roster from rpiathletics.com has 6 listed Bergin, Smith, AAG, Cullen, Rabbani and Coupal. Malchuk is listed as a grad student and Burgdoerfer is listed as a junior. So perhaps Burgdoerfer will be returning next season...

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

from the rpiathletic site; SENIOR CEREMONY: The Engineers will honor seven seniors and their families following the game ... They are Alex Angers-Goulet, Mike Bergin, Jeremy Coupal, Patrick Cullen, Joel Malchuk, Josh Rabbani and Justin Smith ... Bergin is a defenseman and Coupal is a goaltender ... The others are forwards.

Is this the first time that happened, or has that always happened? AFAIK I haven't changed anything. I know that ehf complained about it a few years ago also, but not in that manner.

Burgdoerfer has a year of eligibility remaining. Bergin does also.

Spare me-I doubt i could find the same statistic about any other of the 58 teams in Division I hockey. Scoring is down for sure-but just look at our numbers for goals scored a decade ago and what we have done lately. What i will grant is that it is a testament to our goaltending and our defensive play that we have been able to win 8 games scoring as we do.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

We have thrown in a few stinkers this year for sure. But making a short handed and banged up Princeton look like the class of the league may be the worst. Particularly distressing was the play of what had been all year our strongest part of the team-defense and goaltending. We will need to put this and the BRF out of our minds and just go to central NY and compete the best we can.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

This is Appert's sixth season as head coach. His record is currently 77-119-26 for a .405 winning percentage. This is the lowest winning percentage among all RPI coaches with at least 29 games coached. For comparison, his predecessor, Dan Fridgen was 112-85-19 for a .563 winning percentage in his first six seasons. This will be the 3rd year that his team will have 20+ losses. Since February 2011, this team has fallen off a cliff and looked uncompetitive more often than not. I think it's legitimate to question if Appert should continue as head coach. How many more years does he get before he gets the hook? Just because you may like him as a person doesn't mean he's a good coach.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Players win, coaches lose. We happen to lose, and the morons come in looking for Appert's head.

You might be the moron for accepting what has been........less than what is expected based on what has been made available to SA for him and the program to be successful!

Look, SA took over a lousy program, and immediately brought in very good coaches and very good players.
Even without winning the first few years, you could see the improvement in the system.
I think his problem is, he doesn't understand the mental part of the game.
Instead of getting up for big games (and there are big games), his team comes out nervous and unprepared.
Instead of pressing the point when they score a big goal, they sit back and give it back.
When he took this job, he had never been a head coach in D-1 hockey before. He needs to grow in his job, If he doesn't adjust after this season, then I too might jump on the fire SA bandwagon. But for now, I am willing to give him one more season.

Very well said-I like SA- a lot. I think he is a great addition to this program. But he is nto a strategic coach who can get his team prepared for the big important games and he certainly does not seem able to adapt during games to changes made on the ice. I think he mises having Monty around. I would love to see what happens if he can get a second in coammand to work with the troops before and during games. I maintain that we have a bunch of wonderfully talented boys both on this team and coming next year. But we do not seem to have a team system. We do not have a system for the power play, for penalty killing, for the few times we have an extra attacker at the end of games with the goalie pulled, for dealing with one hot scoring line on an opposing team, or for moving the puck rapidily out of our own defensive zone. We seem to be 6 players out there all trying there best but not working together. This is not a matter of not having the talented individuals-it is a matter of playing together as a cohesive group. I have been indicating this for most of this season-this is coaching and practicing some very fundamental aspects of this game.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Im not going to comment on this past weekend because it will be beaten to death by everyone else. What I will comment on is a group of classless individuals at the top of section 9 or 10 who decided it would be cool to boo the seniors after the game last night while honoring them.

Plain and simple, if your one of those people and reading this, you really need to get your life in check if you feel the need to boo a group of guys who left home to come play in front of us fans for 4 years. They gave up missing family events, friends, and other things to follow a dream and play Division 1 hockey and get a great education. For you to feel the need to boo them, I feel sorry for you, that you cannot in a down season, step back and honor these guys who gave us everything each night and made us proud to say we follow RPI hockey both on and off the ice. I really wished you and your group of what have you done for me lately friends would have left before the game was over so when the fans who have class and respect were honoring these guys, we wouldnt have had to listen to you boo them. Im sorry if this is a long winded post but just be glad I didnt post anything last night or else I may no longer be allowed on this board.
