Interesting that no Union fans have showed up here yet to defend the place. Says something, doesn't it? :)

and the whole time I thought there was only one regular on this thread who liked to poke his finger into the entrance to a wasps' nest......

In 10 years in Troy, the only times that I went to Schenectady were to eat at a Chinese restaurant whose name I have long forgotten, but one of my roommates, who was Chinese, knew the owners.

Jenny and I used to head over to Jack's for chinese food-one RPI Invitational which was held over Thanksgiving they were serving Turkey Fried Rice and Turkey Lo Mein. The good old days when we had a tournament to go to.;)

Ed Weaver's article about tomorrow's game.

Apparently Angers-Goulet is out again with a "leg wound" suffered against Harvard, so he'll have to miss his last Union-RPI matchup. Did anyone see the potential injury happen in the game?

Which ones were dressed as empty seats?

I was there! And there were certainly a LOT of people dressed as empty seats. Ken Schott reported that attendance was 8,981. I'm wondering if that was tickets sold, and the cold and wind kept people from actually going. Because I don't think there were actually that many people there. Although there were a surprising number of Union fans for it being so far away. It was a lot of fun, and it would be awesome if RPI ever gets the opportunity to do something like that. But watching outdoor hockey is COLD.

Also, I'm pretty sure I heard a "Red!" during the anthem tonight. Anybody else go?

So USCHO Schedule says tonights game is on Time Warner, however the Times Useless says Syracuse hoops in on at 6. TWC website says hoops as well. What a bummer.

Yeah, for some reason Union didn't request tonight's game even though Time Warner is covering six of their other home games.

In other news, videos from Harvard and AIC are now streaming on RPI TV's website. Both productions were with five (or less!) crew members, but I'm extremely pleased with how they turned out. It was also my first time running exclusively camera as part of a live hockey production since UMASS on October 21st, 2008! Apologies to anyone who was listening on America One on Tuesday; we had some issues with Audio that were a direct result of being extremely understaffed, see the credits for either production to see what I mean.

Thanks for the kind words. Make sure you look me up when you arrive.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

OK, I'm back from Baahston so I'm ready to respond to some of the earlier criticisms of Messa. First I'll say that there is little about the physical plant that is defensible. Messa needs a major overhaul for all of the reasons already cited. It is a (barely) division 3 facility which is home to a division one program. I have no idea how this is going to be addressed, if in fact it is, but if Union has really made plans to be taken seriously as a program, something needs to be done (and save the snarky "blow up the place" comments). (Tip for my colleagues here, not to be shared with outsiders ;)) but there are additional rest room facilities downstairs. Just head down take a right and the men's room is at the end of the hall. The womens' facilities are at the bottom of the stairs on the left.

I don't countenance boorish behavior, but I think some of the negative comments on fan abuse are at least a bit whiny. I have been to just about every RPI game at Union in the past 10 or more years and I do not recall a single instance of behavior like the incidents referred to. I'm not saying it hasn't happened but I haven't seen it. My seats are on the west side of the building which is a bit more subdued than the east side (behind the benches) so that could have something to do with it. I will say that I have encountered a few less than cordial security people from time to time and one in particular who it doesn't pay to point out, but it hasn't had a material impact on my experiences.

Schenectady is not Beverly Hills, get over it. No comments from me about Troy.

I think the biggest reason to stay away from Messa is really the most important, and that is that I think there really could be a nightmarish scenario in the event of an emergency evacuation. I guess I'm assuming that risk because it isn't keeping me away. Maybe the City could do us all favor by closing it down which would leave no choice but to build a new facility. I'm only being slightly tongue in cheek when I say that.

Anyway, for those of you who brave the natural and manmade elements tonight or in the future, welcome to you all, I'm glad you'll be making the trip.

Spend a game in the visitors section during RPI/Union with a mall cop in your face, and you'll understand what we're talking about. We don't have our mall cops in the Union's fans faces at HFH. But for emergencies, that is why I mentioned calling the state fire marshal. I knew the county or municipal one probably wouldn't listen (although I highly doubt they're that thick, I wouldn't want to take any chances).

Right, so it's our fault we have to deal with spoiled little kids who throw **** at us while public safety turns a blind eye. We just need to toughen up, I guess.

No, apparently it aspires to be Philadelphia.

Last year's games were back to back so it was easier to make this comparison. On Friday at Union, we were verbally harassed and frequently threatened with expulsion by public safety just for daring to make noise or even complain about something being hurled at us. Saturday at RPI, there was an honest to god fistfight in the stands between an RPI fan and a Union fan, and... they were separated. No overreaction. No hero rent-a-cops.

I don't care about the conduct of possibly less than scummy people like Wholin1 when I go to Union. If it were just that, I'd have no problem. The fact is, every year it's a hellhole.
