Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

My recollection, which may not be correct, was that the second semester had a week of in the spring so everything was even. We didn't get off for President's Day or any day in GM week. Of course, they don't have strippers anymore during GM week. (The price that is paid for a coed campus. :D) Then again most of the strippers weren't that good looking, and they only stripped to g-string and pasties.

Edit: Forgot about the free beer which probably dissapeared with the raising of thw drinking age from 18 to 21.

Ralph you really jogging my memory here. The strippers varied in appearance qutie a bit-but some were not bad and one year actually a couple of nationally well known ones were hired. GM week made for some great stories. Still sort of a highlight for me as i think back to those years.

Here's hoping everyone here has a great Holiday season-and this team gets healthy for a much better second half of the season. Go Red!!!

Are you calling them some kind of mindless automaton? I don't get this. This seems to be going out of your way to avoid stating the obvious.

Almost. They certainly don't show any emotion when they score a tying or go ahead goal. I find it very strange.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

Just back to the thread - sorry I had to jet last post....and a lot has and continues to be said (including Ralph's description of stripper and pasties during GM !!).

I dont think its that they quit. All along I have been thinking about playing with a sense of urgency, all the time, both offense and defense. At the beginning of the season, it almost seemed to me like maybe we thought we were pretty good and just controlled the puck and that we could manage and set things up. That just hasnt been the case all year. We are having defensive breakdowns when we dont press the play, particularly getting the puck out of our own end. I forget the games at HFH, but there were at least 2 (Yale being 1) where we were on the power plan and couldnt get out of our own end. By not pressing the play, the play got taken to us, and we lost the ability to dictate the play. For the life of me, I cannot understand the forwards basically standing at the far blue line either, waiting for a pass from deep in our end to break out. I'll again mention Yale and say that once they got control of the puck in their end, that they didnt have much issue breaking out against us, and virtually all of their passes were 10 feet or less and everyone was in motion.

This is supposed to be a team built on speed. Would love to see it and us play that way. There are time that we get the puck in the offensive zone and just control it thru effort and speed. We have had our fair share of good lookes during some of the earlier home games this year, and the puck just didnt fall. that happens sometimes and there is no answer for why. I also agree that injuries and penalties have killed us. As for the "kids", I really liked Haggerty and Neal right from the start, and Schroeder has been very good as well. JL looks better by the game and the kid is going to open it up. On D, we have made some errors, but we play with a chip we havent seen in a while and are much more physical. I personally just want to see intensity. Every one of these kids has been a winner everywhere they have been. They have it. They are not quitters - cant be. I do think that they are playing a bit frustrated, and maybe they are not entirely happy with the style of play this far. I know that they are not happy about losing and actually quite aggreavated by it. Just remember Haggerty's 1-timer...there was so much anger in that shot it was unbelievable.

What I would like to see and want for these kids at this point if to just go out and play the game that they have been recruited for. Play with speed. Play with intensity. Jam the god**** puck down peoples throats. Play with a scramble in all 3 zones and forget about settling things down. Not worry about the season and what anyone is saying anymore and attack and maul teams like a pack of hyienas. And have fun doing it.

I'm sure I'll catch fire, but I dont care. I havent quit, and I dont think they have either. I'd still give my left nut to even just have a chance to practice with these kids. I couldnt be more happy and proud that my oldest is a freshmen at the 'tute, and wish he was somehow affiliated with the team and the coaches and organization because they are special people and the kind of people I pray for him to be associated with. I was told way too often that i would never be able to acheive or do things, and I never believed it and have been very very fortunate in my life - but did it on my own when no one else believed. I believe. Call people out and quit on them if you want....just leaves me an extra seat in the stands to put my jacket in during warmups and the game. I'm sure I'll see you again when they acheive the greatness that they are capable of and deserve....and if not, well, that's OK too in my book.

Sorry - 1 more thought....take a look at Union and now Providence. I think we are easily equally as talented as they are. I know we Union bash quite a bit, but I'm here to tell you that they play with a chip. Doesnt matter the opponent. Their level of effort is typically off the charts. They maul teams. They always score first. Its attitude, and its infectious. You see it now with PC that Nate is there. I say that we just turn these kids loose and let them play for themselves, and let them play the way those 2 teams do. Guarantee the record turns around in a heartbeat.

You're tenure does not justify your knowledge.....I don't trust you.........take it easy big boy or I'll get jeffreyon after you:)!

If you recall the rub that jeffreyon and I had was regarding who would do better at the next level Kirk macDonald of kevin croxton. I said MacDonald. The stats say I was right. Happy Holidays.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

I most certainly agree-but we must remember that he was never recruited to be the number one goaltender for us. With York leaving a year early-and who could blame him-he was thrust into the role. If we were last year's team, scoring like we did then, he would look a lot better to us. But this is just my 2 cents since I am far from a goalie expert.
According to Appert he was recruited to be a #1 goalie http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2011/09/27/sports/doc4e8156d292bbc551519136.txt

Perhaps Appert is over coaching. I personally don`t bash Union. In all honesty they have been eating our lunch for several years and to deny it is futile.

This might just about be it. Obviously I have no idea what Coach is saying in the locker room or on the bench, but I think one of the main differences between last year's team and this year's (graduates/pros notwithstanding) is our style of play. Last year most of our games, especially the ones we won, were gritty, one-goal affairs. This year, what with all the speed and finesse scoring talent we brought in, they started off trying for a much prettier style of hockey, which unfortunately isn't working too well, and is a little bit at odds with the physicality the team is also trying to incorporate. I think this is causing a lot of the players to over-think things, and making the game much more complicated than it should be. I agree with what Senna said earlier: just let them play. The Blues in the NHL had been having a lot of problems early in the season that seemed to mirror the ones the Engineers were/are having. When Ken Hitchcock was brought in, he made a move to take the game back to basics and really simplified what the team wanted to do during a game, and it has made a world of difference.

EDIT: I'm NOT calling for a coaching change by any means-I realize that may have come across as what I was saying. I think Appert is a fantastic coach, I just think we might have to shift what our style a bit.

Some of the strippers weren't that bad looking, e.g., one pictured in my yearbook. I don't recall any being nationally known. A further point, which you know, is that the stages were usually in the parking lot between the HFH and the BARH, so some evenings it got fairly cold for the strippers. :D

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Part IV: We ain't Bailen on this season yet, Go Red!!

Interesting news out of UConn where they've hired a consulting firm to do a complete evaluation of the mens hockey team. Could we be seeing our hopes of ever playing in Hockey East slowly slip away?

I know they made an attempt to get Tempest Storm to Troy one year and we did have Veronica Hart and Busty Rusty and her Twin 50's.(But I digress...)

JS-Nice of SA to say that-but was it for real? He must have thought he had York possibly for one more year- and then recruited Diebold and Kasdorf both? I sometimes think we have to take some of what SA says a little liberally.;)
Agreed.

I think that I saw this some time ago. Of course, UConn could still say "forget it."

They have to at least do some due diligence, since Hockey East would prefer a non-throwaway UConn men's program, and they have at least a little leverage in the matter with UConn's women's program in Hockey East.

There have been a few times where I felt Coach was over coaching, but I wouldn't blame losses on that. One where I would is against Michigan State at the GLI, trying to out-think the coach and throw Merriam in there, and well, we know how that went. However, he's had his moments, like the third Union matchup that year, where Coach was shuffling lines trying to confuse Leaman, especially when some of them were pretty set. I realize we lost that, and come to think of it, Coach did use his timeout a little too early there.

Is this a serious comment?
