Even better it's 6 (8) goals against in 4 games.

I'm worried about the lack of skilled goals by the offense, but I'm not about to throw in the towel or have a panic attack.

Empty-net goals against also mean that you're close. You don't have ENGs scored against you when you're trailing 5-0, only when you're trailing by one (or two).

I missed a game with my post-I still maintain that our defense has only given up 6 goals (in 4 games:o). The 2 Empty netters do not count against our goalies stats and although they count against the defense every hockey fan knows they are a different category of goal against. Our offensive output has been off to an abyssmal start-but as long as we can keep the opponents on average to 2 or less-we should eventually be fine. I cannot imagine too many more games before JL, Neal and Haggerty begin to put up some offensive numbers.

Let me try to help.
If we scored just one goal on Saturday, and just one goal the previous Friday, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
We are two goals away from a decent start to the season.
Lets not panic yet.

Not to make a big thing out of it-but I just felt it a bit odd to pull the goalie down 3-0 late on friday. I know SA has done it before and is very aggressive about pulling the goalie-but i would think the limit would be 2 goals or less down (unless earlier in a game and you have an extra man or two because of penalties). I have watched a lot of hockey over the years and do not recall any team being down by 3 goals with only a couple minutes left and having success pulling the goalie-it just seemd to pad the opponents stats.

Doc - this may well be true but you are pointing to Freshmen to light it up even though coach said we will go as our Juniors and Seniors go...maybe you are saying you disagree with coach and think it will be up to our frosh & soph class to lead the way, I noticed you did not say PC, AAG, Lee & Mc will soon be hitting stride. I agree its not time to panic by any means but I am concerned and we have a tough schedule for the next 3 weeks. Here's hoping we find some scoring.

We're early enough in the season that it seems like a good idea to get our boys some 6-on-5 in-game practice. If it looks like the outcome is all but set in stone, why not get some up-to-speed practice in? The worst that could happen is that we lose by another goal or two. A loss is a loss is a loss is a loss. A win is a win is a win is a win.

I add that that we scored a goal on Friday with the goalie pulled, it would have changed the team's mental attitude for Saturday. It made sense to me.

I was thinking more along the lines of preparing us for those league play situations where we're down 1 goal and need to go 6-on-5 (you never know, we may have to make it 3 years in a row against Union :eek:). I suppose your theory could also be true.

Exactly. I do think that we are better defensively this year. I do also think that this is the same conversation from last year in needing to average 1-2 more goals per game. Its not a ton, but will drive an entirely different result. I know RC has said again this year (and I agree also) that i'm ok with still flying a bit under people's radar right now. This team has a ton of potential and when things start to click, we will be more than ok.

I suppose-makes some sense-if you look at it as a practice exercise.:rolleyes:

I left most of those out because they have had a season or two to give us a track reacord. On paper it appears the potential to finish and score for the future resides in the freshman class. Coach does expect his upper classes to lead, but to my eye, our offense for this year and next will depend greatly on how well the freshmen fit in and mature.
