Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

For some reason this team so far is reminding me of the US Men's National Soccer team....still trying to figure out the right mix of players to complement each other, doing a pretty sound job tactically for the most part, except they cannot score! [yet] and an occasional mental lapse ruins an otherwise good defensive performance.

Nice to get the kinks out early though.

I thought Hicks, Baker, Feola, and the Murphies were the worst refs I've seen. Then I went to the RPI/Niagara women's game. They made Hicks look like a good ref.

I will never yell at Hicks again, because I now know it could still be MUCH worse.

Every decade has it's problem officials. Hicks has been difficult but he has not reached the status yet of some of the guys from the old days. I would still put Belanger and Noeth at the top of the list. I'll probably catch some flack for this-but I think the refs now are probably a bit better than we have had over the years. I won't say that about the linesmen-they are missing too many offsides and miscalling too many icings and have too much t4rouble figuring out how to drop the puck on face offs to suit me.

Tonight may be a better outcome. Team just needs to settle down and shoot more.
D is solid and on paper the forwards look good.
Good luck tonight.

Losing 4-0 and outshot 30-17 is not solid, avg at best

Don't know Belanger, but I will agree on Noeth. I also agree about the current officials, they are not as bad as they were in the nineties.
Linesmen are better this year (so far). At the game last Friday, there were no real face off issues, I think someone talked to them. That particular game was well officiated. Hope it continues.

You really had to see a game officiated by Pierre Belanger to understand. One time at the HFH he got hit with a puck smack on the side of the head. He crumpled to the ice and did not move. They removed him on a stretcher and the entire place erupted in cheers!

Skating 7 freshmen may have had something to do with it. Plus I am not so sure Ferris is rated as highly as they should be. I sure hope you are right and tonight is a different story.:)
