Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Doc: They have, sadly, been officially reported as "out" for this weekend. Can't imagine they'll be travelling.

Will the team be coming back after the 2 games at Ferris or do they stay away to remain for ND 6 days later? I had figured they were out for the first weekend but wasn't sure whether they would be able to join the team for the game at ND. These are going to be 3 tough road games for sure and to be short handed makes it that much more difficult.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

O'Grady's injury, being undisclosed, could be fairly serious. :(

Never like to have to think that but let's hope undisclosed simply means 'we are not talking' and not that it is of any severity. Higgs sounds like he could play which would be nice. I get concerned when I hear back injury or head injury-those just seem to be the ones that the severity level is just not known for some time. The next 2 weeks will certainly test the depth we have up front. Carrying only 7 defensemen I would think if we have to have a few guys sit out, it is better that they are forwards.

By NCAA rules, the team must come back to Troy. I can't remember whether it's arrive 2 days before and leave 1 day after, or if it's 3 and 2, or some other combination, but since it isn't Alaska, they're most certainly not allowed to stay out there. Probably not allowed to for Alaska either, but I believe the rules for that are a little different.

I don't know for sure, but I would think they would come back for practice and classes. Also, isn't there some rule that the team isn't allowed to leave more than 48 hours before an away game? I remember something like that being mentioned before they left for Green Bay, but I'm too lazy (and in class) to go find it.

I believe the team flew into O'Hare this morning to catch a connecting flight to Grand Rapids and bused it from GR up to Big Rapids (or they might have just bused it from Chicago to Big Rapids). Id imagine they will do a similar routine back home on Sunday. Then im guessing they fly back out to Chicago next Thursday for the Notre Dame game on Friday. The team will be attending the ND/USC football game on Saturday and probably come back home on Sunday.

Appreciate the information. I just did not know if they were allowed to stay on the road for two weekends. I suppose that will be the same for us in the later weeks of march in the NCAA tournament.;)

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

I have been thinking for a while about going to Troy for the Colorado College games in two weeks. For those who know my past history, it is probably still only about a 1 of 4 chance I will go, so you don't have to make plans to be out of town yet. :D

Does anyone have any recommendations about hotels/motels? The Hilton Garden Inn is booked. The only place that I have ever stayed in Troy is the Holiday Inn/Best Western which I know is a dorm now. (That isn't exactly true, when I visited RPI in the summer of 1963, I stayed in some dump in Albany with my mother.) Of course, WiFi access is crucial. :D

I assume that tickets won't be a problem.

If you prefer not to post here, you can email me through USCHO.

And a note to RC, I do remember that I owe you a beer for the JL bet.

There are a bunch of places to stay in Latham which would probably be your best bet to stay close to Troy without spending an arm and a leg. I've heard decent reviews of Cocca's and the Holiday Inn Express but of course neither are anything to write home about. My roommate's mom always stayed at the Century House when she visited but I think that's quite pricey.

You may want to order tickets in advance so you don't get stuck in a corner. It's reunion and homecoming weekend so while the game may not sell out, it will certainly be crowded.

I thought that Homecoming is a week earlier. At least that is what it says on the Football schedule. http://www.rpiathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=football&

I stayed at this motel a couple of years ago for a freakout. We thought that it was a little better than the Best Western that you mentioned.

If you are going to be there for Friday's game, let me know. I will be at that game.

If you're going up, I may just have to see if I feel like driving out to Troy on Saturday evening. I know, so much for not going to games this year.

Ralph, I've stayed in the Desmond before, and liked it a lot. It's on the pricy side, but it is right next to the airport, and certainly has wifi access. I'll be in town for the CC series as well, in section 17. If you do make it, it would be great to meet you. I'll be the one in the Bailen home or Croxton away jersey.

That hotel is booked. If I go, I will certainly post it here. I will probably also attend one of the women's games.

...just unroll a sleeping bag on the bar at the Notty Pine and wash some dishes as payment ;).

Yuck! From times that it has been discussed year, it has apparently improved, but my stomach recoils from an experience there.
