Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

"Yahoo" + "reputable" = Does not compute :D

Proof:

"The Rangers drafted D’Amigo in the 2007 OHL draft, but he chose to join the hockey program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., which is roughly two hours west of his hometown of Binghamton, N.Y."

On a serious note, I'm disappointed to hear that he may be leaving, as he was exciting to watch last year and I was looking forward to seeing how he would do this season. Hopefully he makes the best decision and everything works out for him.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I agree with all of this but its hard to turn down the cash. If I had to bet RC another beer (he already owes me two :D ) I'd wager Jerry ends up in Kitchener this year (60 games in the O this fall, then the AHL/Marlies in the fall of '11.)

Wicked-How much cash would you say would make this a wise decision? BTW I agree as I mentiond in an earlier post-if the cash was indeed enough.

I dunno I don't have a great grasp on how upfront cash the NHL is throwing around I just find it hard to believe that they'll flat out guarantee him that he'll play for the Marlies. If memory serves, he wouldn't count against the Leafs' cap number if he plays in Kitchener...and they'd still achieve the goal of having him under contract.

...Brian Burke has had 3 GM positions...Hartford/Vancouver/Anaheim....Fired from all 3 jobs....and IMO Toronto is a sinking ship or at best taking on water...not the best situation in the world...but what do I know !!!!!

Well to be fair, most GMs are fired ...or quit.....repeatedly over the course of a career. Look at Glenn Sather as one example -- that guy lives out of a suitcase. If GM job stability was criteria for whether players signed or not, there would be some empty rosters out there.

I have personal knowledge of the amounts tossed at Brad Tapper at the end of his 3rd year at RPI. He had to take the offer and go. The amount was staggering, but then again he had just had an incredible season with 31 goals and had 7 teams fighting to sign him. If Jerry D was offered those kind of numbers then it had to turn his head.

It appears that Monty is wasting no time in beginning the rehabilitation of the public image of Mr. Saponari. He was one of two Saints' players representing the team at the "Taste of Dubuque" event...I note that the Saints booth was located near the North Star Brewery ( I swear I 'm not making it up) --- I trust they kept him away from the beer.

I'M SORRY, that was a low blow. I promise to refrain from any further jabs at Vinny -- so long as he commits to RPI :D

With Jerry D'A and his fifty+ point season I would have put RPI in the top two in the Ecac and a top 20 in the nation. Without him I think they are still a lock for home ice probably AC appearance but at the end of March I hope we are not dreaming what could have been if...

As much as I appreciate and encourage your enthusiasm, there are no locks in the ECAC. As for Jerry, we were lucky to land him and we knew it was very likely a rental, not a purchase....I just hope that Mr. Pirri stays put.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I was more than a bit surprised to read the D'Amigo news only because it seemed so likely he was staying for at least one more season. It appears that college hockey is beginning to resemble college basketball in terms of the great talents leaving early. I think this is inevitably going to become more commonplace so college hockey fans had best get used to it. That being said, it has to be a bitter pill to swallow. I still think RPI will be a top 4 team this season though that will be a bit more difficult without JDA. There's still plenty left on the hilltop in Troy and I'm looking forward to some great route 7 games and to making life tough on those teams travelling into the area. As I've posted on the Union thread, I wish we had such problems.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

While I'm sad to see Jerry go after just 1 season in Troy, I must say it has been great watching him and being able to celebrate his WJC gold medal. I for sure thought he would have stayed another year and was preparing myself for life without Jerry in 2011-2012. I wish him nothing but the best and hopes he can look back at his short time here at RPI with nothing but great memories.

This opens up the front line a little bit and will make practices that much more intense for guys to get playing time.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

No Jerry at dinner. I did not see BP either. I did not play golf because I had an appointment but maybe he (BP) was there earlier. I think Jerry is making a mistake but again while this is not good it shows the program's maturation under SA. When is the last time we had somebody leave after freshman year? Never. So we move on. This season in my humble estimation hinges on Allen. If he comes up big we can do good things. On a high note I did have four G and T's  so I do have a slight buzz as I write (I thought that this last line would score some points w DrD, got a ride home for any law enforcement officials who frequent the thread). Let's Go Red!!!!

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I know it does not look good for seeing Jerry in cherry red next year, and perhaps im missing something, but has Jerry or anybody officially said i im not returning next year?
as much as i would love to see Jerry skating up the wing at the Fieldhouse, i wish him the best either way

LETS GO RED!!!!

Not sure if this was posted earlier but I found this in the Waterloo Record. Has a quote from Jerry who was on vacation in the Finger Lakes.

Great article. Still hoping against hope that JD'A stays.

But, if he has a shot at the Leafs, I am certainly not one to deny it. And, of course, best of luck to him.
