Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

What gets lost in all of the discussions related to players coming and going is that SA, D-I coaches, and most coaches in general overcome some pretty steep obstacles just by keeping their teams viable on the ice, not to mention improving them...I am in awe that coaches can keep the pipeline flowing with even a modicum of smoothness in the face of the powers working against them. Major Junior Hockey and the Pros are constantly picking off the targeted players that College coaches identify for development...it is a very unstable environment at best. I cannot imagine expecting a coach who is relatively new to slap together a dynasty overnight. So SA & Co. have my undying patience while they work on building that dynasty...

And he has great hair!;)

:D :D :D
I've got my support group singing a new song at the end of our meetings, sung to the music of Kumbaya:
"Everything is fine, he's at a wedding, 'ole Brandon he's just fine...."

Eliminating the dropping of the puck would eliminate the skill from faceoffs. Do not want.

It would not eliminate skill. It would simply replace one skillset for another.

Guys like the B.R.O would be a hot commodity not only on the blueline, but as a faceoff specialist.

Report from Captain's practice. I did not see Pirri. ..

I'm not sure if you've heard, but everything is fine. Pirri has begun the post-Jerry era by participating in an attempt to break the world record for longest wedding ceremony, currently underway in Mumbai. He is due back on campus in time to board the flight to CC.

Everything is fine. Here, have another sip of Kool Aid. :D :D :D

Babo, how close to downtown Dubuque?

If you mean me? I'm already home...it was a marathon drive to Elgin, IL on day 1 (with no AC in the B.R.O.'s HEEP known as 'The Green Hammer'), a quick side business trip to Madison, WI, on Tuesday morning, then overnight in DBQ. The new rink is actually on an island in the Mississippi adjacent to downtown... across the street from a casino, a nice hotel and Catfish Charlie's (rated as one of the nicest restaurants in the US for boat owners to drop anchor for a meal). Everything is a 10 minute drive...billet family to rink; rink to school; school to job. Community events already underway...individual workouts began yesterday and some of the players will skate in Madison a few times a week until pre-season begins...

Did you treat yourself to a deep-fried pickle ?

I like the idea that the NHL is experimenting IN A TEST TUBE. If they put some of their ideas into NHL games without testing them I would take exception. I like the puck drop; it's part of the way I perceive the original game...leaving the puck on the ice does seem like Lacrosse. I like both sports and don't really want them to morph toward each other...but I tip my hat to the creativity that the NHL is showing. I give full credit for that to Gary Bettman, who receives raspberries every step of the way. Ironic how he has brought hockey into the mainstream more than anyone else in the sport (other than Gretsky) and is lambasted at every turn. If I was going to market an industry, I'd put my $ on Mr. Bettman

Not to belabor the Pirri topic, but if the Coach says it's a wedding...why would he lie for the player to cover negotiations...I have questions about the length of the absence too but I can't see SA compromising his own integrity to protect that scenario...

I don't have any idea where he is (nor do I suffer nearly the amount of angst over his absence, that some here seem to think I do.):D Whoever gets on the plane to Colorado Springs is who we go to war with. Period.

If he's attending to personal issues, I've got absolutely no trouble with that, and back him 110%. But if that's the case, thats what Seth should have said. On the flip side, if the absence surrounds professional/business issues relating to Pirri's life after RPI, then Seth will have lied to the fans. As the days tick by, the length of absence makes the wedding story tough to swallow, unless Mr. Pirri was the groom. :D :D

Maybe SA sent Pirri on a recruiting trip, and his first stop was Cornwall where he attended JL's wedding to the girlfriend that we heard about. :D

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I went back and looked at the roster listings and I think maybe I saw a player w 16 (Pirri's #) on the helmet. I'm not sure. No one had #'s on their jersey's. Brandon got a lot bigger per press accounts so maybe I was wrong. I could tell who Bailen was because he was the smallest guy on D and had a wicked shot from point. I didn't pick up Bruts till the very end of practice so again maybe BP was there. Want to clarify because I know that Ed W. looks at the board. Don't want to cause s***storm. I agree with the lovely Babo, SA wouldn't be upfront to the Ragord. Maybe a family matter came up, who knows. I believe Seth. I didn't talk to anyone because well I didn't want to bother them. I really enjoyed the practice, they played three 15 minute periods with non-stop clock. Sorry for adding to the speculation, I wish they would go to the half shields;)

No worries AD...I know what you mean, watching practice without a telephoto lense it is tough to pick out guys at times.
