Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

....I expect Pat Cullen to also step it up .... Rogic ... I think we can expect something special from him.

I don't think so. I think even with Brutlag on offense, we have 7....I think Brutlag would be more like Garrett Vassel and be an emergency defenseman in case we really needed it.

Add Helfrich to the "capable of more" list. Higgs will surprise folks, IMO much like Marty O'Grady did as a frosh. No way we see Quinn this year, we've got plenty of talent coming in at D, and Seth is trying to space the blueline classes out a bit.

I think some of Marty O'Grady's terrific play was the fact that he had such good chemistry with playing with Brandon Pirri (remember how it was mentioned on here that BP mentions Marty's name and the coaches immediately go after him?). However, if BP were to wave the pen, I don't think Marty's play ability would change. In fact, he is very capable of bettering any line on which he plays. He was able to "seal the deal" a few times last year (notably UPEI and Michigan).

I didn't see any video on Brock Higgs, but maybe we'll see one of our upperclass players come out of nowhere, like Justin Smith. I know last year that Jordan Watts also started to shine a bit.

29 pts in 19 playoff games - 4 playoff GWGs..need I say more? :p

Its not video, but a piece from THN had Higgs' at #6 on their "10 to watch" list...FWIW, the 1st three guys (and maybe more) on the list have signed NHL contracts. :D http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/24884-The-Hot-List-They-call-him-mister.html

I think we'll look back at Monty ID'ing and signing Higgs as another of his eastern scores, akin to Jerry, BP and Quinn. BTW, Hockey Canada lists Higgs at 179lbs.

I think Cullen is going to step up. IMO, he is a great kid and the experience at Caps camp will give him a taste. I know there has been alot of speculation (well, of course that's what we do :D ) but how do the early departutes in the ECAC effect the balance of power in the league. I guess before this all started I had Yale and us as the teams to beat. Any thoughts, I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

Actually, it surfaced yesterday. :D Assuming Jerry is gone, where Pirri is is the question of the moment.

Is it Ok to have is is in a sentence? My grammar teacher back at PS 251 in Brooklyn would turn over in her grave.;)

Glad you're recovering from your long night...:D Did you ask anyone where they heck BP is?

I boldly predict that the league standings will remain up in the air heading into the final week of the regular season, with RPI somewhere between #1 and #6. :D

Marty has a motor and skates every shift like its his last...absolutely love the guy....Captain in the making if you ask me. Hopefully this work ethic will wear off on the youngsters.

If indeed JD is gone(and it sure seems like he is), all the talk about how it opens up opportunites is nice but the fact remains, he is a major talent and we will miss his development in Troy. It sure would have been nice to watch him for at least a couple more years. In any case, I have been following this team for eons and this will not change. I just would have liked to see us become the Beast of the East once again and with JD that could have become the case sooner rather than later.:(

After a night to ponder all this I have come to the conclusion that we will be fine without JDA or BP for that matter. It will affect or record because they are game changers but I in no way think this is a major setback. We have a deep and talented player pool and will be just fine. Are we a better team w/those guys...ABSOLUTLY....are we a mediocre team without those guys...ABSOLUTLY NOT.....would it be nice to be in a tie game w/less than a minute on the clock would I like to be able to roll out JDA/Pirri and Polachek.. yea it sure would. So wouldn"t every other coach in the ECAC.My hope is SA brings in 2 players a year that may leave for the NHL every year...when that happens WE HAVE ARRIVED !!!!!!!!!
